Beware: Shipping companies appear to be gouging through Ebay billing

I rarely sell items through ebay (I use it as infrequently as possible to dispose of old/unwanted items).  Anyway, twice within the past month Fedex and now USPS both have tried to overcharge me (Fedex more than doubled my shipping charges by almost tripling my shipping weight -- an ITEM that is clearly 8 pounds (from 8 pounds to almost 24 pounds) and USPS tried to double dip by charging me once at the post office for a package weight overage and then billed me again for a package weight overage through Ebay invoicing.  I reported this nonsense to Ebay customer service and also to Paypal, but have yet to receive a resolution.

Back in the old days, rebate companies did this technique often by deliberately overcharging on items only to offer full rebates which they would then make the customer jump through several hoops to claim.  The rebate mantra back then was to try to slow pay or NOT pay as many rebates as possible so that customers would ultimately forget about their rebate or not bother to follow up with the rebate processing companies.

Fast forward to today and the shipping companies (due to lost profits) seem to be using the same technique here:  grossly overcharge for shipping weight or overages through Ebay billing.  If even half of the customers fail to follow up on these ridiculous overcharges then MAJOR profit ensues.  Rinse and repeat.  These are not simple billing mistakes but GROSS overcharges which then place the onus on the seller to prove.  Nice try Ebay.  Once I get my shipping credits, I WILL NEVER sell on Ebay again.

BTW, I would like a mod to help me get my credits, because I am P**** off.  This nonsense is deliberate (in my opinion) and it is VERY frustrating.

I don't understand how that even happens unless the items are actually overweight and it gets picked up as over somewhere along the way.  But that rarely happens.

I typically ship over the counter but when I print a label, I print, put it on, they scan it in and off it goes.

One time I had a printed label return, it was over weight by maybe 1 lb, with all these notes that the postage was under charged because somehow the postal clerk was able to find out what I paid through eBay with a discount.  I don't know if I ever got repaid for the cancelled label.

Ebay can't help you with the problems with USPS/Fedex.........you need to contact them yourself to resolve the problems.  They have no way of determining what the weight of the items might be versus what you used for shipping.
