Best way to list when a size is wrong

I have seven 2-packs of Hanes undies (briefs), plus another 2 pack that was opened for trying on when I got them home. These are, I think, easily two sizes smaller than marked based on how women's underwear sizes run. So far I have taken photos with a ruler across the waist of the new undies, and also photos of the new  undies up against my underwear that is sized one size smaller but which is actually 1.5" wider at the waist all the way down the hip to the leg. I've already chickened out once from trying to list these on eBay, but came across them today when sorting garage sale stuff from charity pick up stuff. I now feel like eBay is the best place to unload them because I have half a chance of explaining what is wrong with the sizing, rather than put them in the charity pile and have them given to the wrong sized lady.  What do you think, trash 16 brand new undies or try to describe the sizing issue on eBay?

Let your conscious be your guide.  Also consider the ramifications if you are not completely accurate on your descriptions.

This, IMO is where it  can really cross the line.... a seasoned seller wanting to push the envelope over a low dollar item  and that kind of surprises me???. Maybe I am misreading this?

As you know, mobile shoppers will likely see only your top description cat and not look down in the detailed item description.... this is what gives Amazon the edge over Ebay.  Each listing here... is either a part of the problem or part of the solution.....

@stonevintage What are you on about? I have packages of BRAND NEW underwear. Where does my conscious or crossing a line or pushing the envelope or being a part of "the problem" come into selling these items or seeking advice on a sizing discrepancy?

Because you started your topic saying they are two sizes smaller then the package indicates ? That is trouble waiting to happen.

Re: Best way to list when a size is wrong

From what you have opened... you have a size descripency vs listed/printed/tagged size.  You will not know if all packages have this problem unless you open each one and take measurements. You mentioned some that were only tried on for size.  You did not mention eliminating those from your listings.

JMO but your conscious comes in where you know you have packaged products that you have some indication my be "2nds"  (not the size the packages claim).  You know you have a problem, hence your post.

Your question "best way to list?"  leaves what for the buyer?  You have an iffy batch there and cannot accurately advertise any of them based on assumptions that they are all the same (without opening each package and measuring).

You also mentioned the set "only tried on for size at home".... what??? I just thought you knew about the ban on used (tried on) underwear.

I guess you could list... "underwear, appear to be mismarked according to size, packages were new and unopended" but," I had to open each one to get measurements to give you proper size".  "But rest assured, they are new out of the package - except for the ones that were opened to try on just for size".  OK.

Re: Best way to list when a size is wrong

I am confident that all the undies are sized the same and I don't need to open packages. Ever hopeful than one day when pigs fly and hell freezes over I'd lose 15 pounds, I did not return the small underwear. I bought 8 more packages one size larger, which are two sizes larger than what I normally wear.

Lol, well hey... its all good then if you trust the unopened ones as to size.  Cause you'll be putting your rep behind that.

I think men are more apt to be ok with that then women. Maybe not. A package like that even at Walmart is going to be passed by until it's marked down on clearance to $1. And that's coming from a store. They do not put customer returns back like that, only items found in the store like that which still means there could have been a try on.

Buying from a stranger on Ebay. Yeah, again, $1. If it's going to some perv, well they will be pretty bummed they're clean. I don't think my boy would have a single problem buying an open new bag of boxers here. Me? Not a chance. There's a Walmart everywhere. It costs next to nothing there already. But that's just me.

I've always found it weird that a lot of people don't have a problem buying boxers that don't come in a package but have a problem with briefs of boxer briefs without packaging.

Re: Best way to list when a size is wrong

It would be easier if we knew the size marked. Let's say the size marked is a large, but they measure and fit like a medium. You're selling as two lots so you can ship FC. I suggest:

Title: NEW SEALED LOT 8 Pairs Haynes Underwear Panties Marked L Fit M

Condition: New in 4 sealed packages, marked large but fit medium, see flat measurements in description.

"I have taken photos with a ruler across the waist of the new undies, and also photos of the new  undies up against my underwear"

DO NOT post a photo of your used underwear, I don't care how innocent your intention, it's revolting.

Also buyers will wonder how you are selling sealed packages if a pair has been removed from the package to photograph. There was a thread on the boards about this yesterday. You should explain that you photographed a pair from an opened package you are not selling.

Good luck!

Re: Best way to list when a size is wrong

It seems to me that the obvious solution is to return them to the place you bought them for a refund .

Re: Best way to list when a size is wrong

I like your listing text suggestion, but OMG not like I'm going to photograph a pair of ratty old underwear! Rest assured I have a nearly new size 8 (there, I've said it, I've outed myself as a large woman) that I can photograph at waist and hip (not crotch) showing that the size 9 Hanes are way smaller.

In answer to someone else's comment about returning them: we travel several weeks each year. I am not fond of clothes shopping when we are at home dealing with every day life, but I find it relaxing on vacation especially if there is no rush to be sightseeing. So the too small Hanes undies were bought three years ago at a store we don't have in our area, and then the larger size 10 that did fit were bought local.

Re: Best way to list when a size is wrong

stone - the pkg opened - only tried on at home - was 1 pair out of the pack of 4 - that is why the OP has a seled 4 pk and an opened 3 pk to sell - they are not selling the ones they tried on.

That sounds about normal. Aftermarket, seconds, manufacture errors that should not have been on store shelves unload them on Ebay.

What do you think the big box sellers do? Answer - they sell their seconds or dead stock.

And where do you think a lot of sellers get their new, open box items for sale? Answer - at liquidation auctions.
