Best offers slow payment

Most of the time when I list an item with “Best Offer” and I accept the buyers offer, they are so slow paying for the item; sometimes 1 or 2 days. That is not fair to the seller because the item is marked as sold and it is taken off the active listing, whereas another buyer might be willing to pay the listed price. I am currently waiting on payment for an item that I accepted an offer on early this morning. Is there a way that I can cancel that order, if the buyer is not willing to make an instant payment like is required on listings without “Best Offer”?

Thank you,

Re: Best offers slow payment

How does the item being taken off active listing status seem unfair to you?  Once you accept the offer the item is sold and can't be sold to someone else.  It would be unfair if the listing remained active after being sold and you ended up with two buyers and only one item.

The only way to insure that an item remains available for sale until paid for is to list using the IPR option and not accept offers.

Instead of accepting an offer try sending a counter-offer at the same price they offered.

Most people are not going to bother accepting an offer they don't intent to pay.

Re: Best offers slow payment

Immediate payment isn't available on Offers. I'd let this one play out... hopefully, you'll be paid; maybe eBay will step in and cancel for you, giving the non-payer an Unpaid Item strike.

An 'Out of Stock' cancellation is all you've got now, and eBay will ding your seller account for it. Hang in there.

Re: Best offers slow payment

Yeah, I am kinda tired of people accepting offers and then taking days to pay.  Why are you making or accepting offers on items that you can't pay for at the time of purchase?    Like I've said before on here, yes I know the auctions you have to no choice but to wait, because there is no way to make the buyer pay as soon as the auction ends, but for fixed price listings, this is the only site of know of where you can "buy" or more like RESERVE an item for yourself and the item is taken out of inventory so no one else can buy it, without you paying.

Granted this is eBay and common sense issues are like, well, common sense is not only uncommon here, it's not existent.... But what would be so hard about if a buyer wants to accept an offer that the seller has made to them, it should take the buyer to the check out page immediately, and the item is not "sold" or RESERVED for them, if they don't complete checkout at the time of accepting the offer, then they can't accept the offer.

Especially for fixed price listings with "immediate payment required" which I have all of mine set on.  Why can that not be done?  I'm not going to name a competitor site, but my sister uses a site to sell, that I myself have never used, but on that site, if the buyer makes the offer to the seller, the site makes them "pay" at the time of making the offer, and puts a hold on that amount on the credit card.... if the seller doesn't accept the offer, the hold is taken off, if they do, the payment is immediately put through.

Oh, and just another note, on THAT site, my sister had a package she shipped that the USPS I guess sent to the Twilight Zone, because it hadn't been scanned since August 30th....  Unlike THIS site where, even if the seller has the tracking to show the item was shipped, if the USPS loses it, eBay makes the SELLER refund the buyer, and then when it magically shows up, the seller is out their item and their money and the buyer gets a freebie.... on THAT other site, they declared it a LOST PACKAGE, and the SITE refunded the buyer out of THEIR pocket, and my sister kept her money for the sale.

Like, should a business like eBay have some kind of business insurance to cover such issues, so that us poor saps aren't losing out of money and items but the company takes it as a loss???

Sorry for ranting, but just wanted to share how things work in other places with good business policies and practices to keep both the buyer and the seller happy.

Re: Best offers slow payment

1 or 2 days......oh the horror!

Have you ever considered that the offer you accepted this morning hasn't even been seen by the buyer until they check their eBay account,  maybe they are busy or at work and can't access their account instantly.

If the problem is really that bad simple option is to not get involved in offers.

Re: Best offers slow payment

Not trying to be snarky here, but I don't think waiting 1 or 2 days is worth getting upset about. Yes, there are a lot of deadbeats, but I think payment in 48 hours is reasonable. I usually pay as soon as I see my offer was accepted, but that's mostly because I'm addicted to my phone and have a hard time putting it down. But if I was to submit an offer, and then head to the cabin where there is no internet, I would absolutely expect the seller to be patient enough to give me those 24 hours to get back home.

Re: Best offers slow payment

Did you accept his offer as  soon as he made it? I always pay as soon as I see that the seller has accepted my offer, but that might not be until the next day.

Ebay does not always pass on messages immediately.
