Becoming a Top Rated Seller and the Required for 100 Sales in One Year Period

I had sales of $3,255.00 for the first quarter 2018 with an average sale of $162.75 per item. I sell ancient Greek and Roman coins to a very select market of buyers. As such, it is virtually impossible for me to achieve the sales goal of 100 items during a calendar year. If eBay choses to identify those whom make the greatest financial impact upon their stockholders and corporate bottom line, I would select those Sellers whom achieve the greatest dollar amount in sales as oppsed to simply the number of sales. I can sell 100 cheap bronze coins in a year, but I will never sell another coin again as a trusted dealer. So eBay, what do you desire. Top Performing Sellers who generate thousands of dollars just as you advertise, or people who sell one-hundred doilies for $1.00 each and thus become eBay Top Performing Sellers.

Its the difference between selling thousands of grains of rice or owning the entire rice plantation. EBay only counts ONE plantation.

Top-rated seller status means the seller has enough transactions to be considered experienced and also provides the highest level of service.

You need to meet the threshold for number of sales and well as dollar amount (among other things). If a seller can do that with doilies, so be it. Find additional items to list to boost your number of sales if you would like Top Rated Seller status.

From eBay help:

Becoming a Top Rated Seller

Becoming a Top Rated Seller indicates that you consistently deliver outstanding customer service, and also makes you eligible to receive a prominent eBay Premium Service badge on qualifying listings.

To become a Top Rated Seller you'll need to:

  • Have an eBay account that's been active for at least 90 days
  • Have at least 100 transactions and $1,000 in sales during the last 12 months with US buyers
  • Comply with eBay's selling practices policy
  • Meet the requirements for transaction defect rate, cases closed without seller resolution and late shipment rate. You'll find the requirements in the table below

If you've met these performance standards requirements on eBay.com, we'll automatically upgrade you to the Top Rated Seller status at your next evaluation.

TRS is like a gold star in your forehead.  In the Grand Scheme of things, it doesn't really mean much.

Concentrate on making buyers happy and don't sweat the small stuff.

The criteria of 100 sales in a one year period has been set for quite a while. I don't think Ebay will pull back from that. They may even increase that amount at some time I feel based on how they have changed the requirements recently. You had 20 sales in the first quarter so you would be close if you annualized that. To me it seems you  could increase the volume of your listings at the same price level and if your sell through rate remained the same you could achieve TRS. Or you could list a group of discount coins in which you used these as starter coins for people who would be interested in starting a collection. These starter coins could put you over the required number of sales. You could also list books or other collecting items as loss leaders to get you over the number. You say"I can sell 100 cheap bronze coins in a year, but I will never sell another coin again as a trusted dealer." Many dealers sell at all price ranges realizing that there are collectors at all levels of interest from beginners to advanced.

In two weeks, the last of the TRS benefits will erode away, and the TRS badge will be put on the shelf with our Power Seller badges and VHS tape players  ... interesting to look at, but not a benefit to business.

The Priority Mail prices for Commercial Plus are now nearly in line with Commercial, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it disappear next year ... the 20% discount on FV fees became 10% last year ... in May the remaining 10% will be used to pay for free returns.  So, all the financial benefits have mostly evaporated.

At your sales levels, even if you were TRS and enjoyed TRS+ listings with no returns, the maximum benefit to you would only be $10 a month.

Whee.

Yes, the other member is correct. The current sales requirement for TRS has been this for quite some time now. In fact I remember the requirement being much higher before. They already lowered it then to what it is now.

And according to the trend in policy changes, it seems eBay is trying to lessen their number of TRS members, not increase them.
