What garbage is this?
Ebay has been paying me AND deducting listing fees from my account for years ever since they ditched PayPal.
I suddenly receive an email from them today, saying "We couldn't verify some of the bank account information you provided, so your banking details need to be verified." What the Hell? I haven't just provided ANYTHING, and the bank details EBay HAS on file, they have been using without incident. NOTHING'S CHANGED.
So I click "verify bank details" and up comes the exact current (and correct) details they've been using - except suspiciously there is no option to "confirm" what's there - only advice that they will send two mini-payments to my account which I will eventually have to confirm receiving, before they pay me for current sales for which they are holding my money. They even have the audacity to insist I dispatch the goods by Tuesday (whilst unpaid).
I think about this for a few moments then it clicks. Of course they have my bank details, but by doing this they defer having to pay me for probably a week to 10 days - depending on when they opt to forward those mini-payments. Multiply this by millions of EBay bank accounts they suddenly "can't verify" (in what WAY, they fail to nominate you'll notice) and Ebay has MULTI MILLIONS of other people's money suddenly on their hands to float in the money market.
Another initiative of some smart young exec at Head office no doubt.
Anyone else experienced this scam?

It is what they call a Random Security check, it isn't done to frustrate you. They aren't trying to pull one over on you. They are just making sure all is good and secure. Ebay has to have tools in which to keep our info secure.
This should not take more than 5 business days. The email you received from them may tell you that, IDK.
Not a "scam" but a security check. It is not a conspiracy to cause you harm.

It's not a "conspiracy" at all - I never suggested it was. It has nothing to do with "security" either!
The banking account was set up initially by their sending two mini-deposits which I identified. They have been sending payouts to it ever since - payments for sales by (Noel Bailey/Retromedia) which each listing clearly shows. How is it possible I'm suddenly not me and that the Bank details aren't mine? Wouldn't the REAL "Retromedia" have raised an issue were this the fact? What has EBay "learned" from this exercise? If, somehow I had "stolen" Retromedia's identity AND Bank account details (obviously with no-one noticing) then it must have been already 'stolen' when they first validated the banking details! - in which case technically it WOULD still be valid!
They say "we cannot verify 'some' (note that word) banking details - yet they manage to display them all to me and then deposit money into that very account - the one that might not be mine! HOW, in God's name,
does depositing money into that account (again) verify that I'm me? If I have access to it, obviously I'd be able to see those deposits and report back to them the amounts!
Ebay is a horrifically greedy entity - no ethical company would pull commission from your shipping costs (leaving you to make up the shortfall) and then demand a further commission on the sales-tax for crying out loud - the buyer's expense, NOT the seller's earnings! I was wrong...this is AGGRAVATED GREED. I know it...you most certainly know it, the Ebay community knows it. Why do they take TWO days to pay you after the buyer pays?? (With PayPal, you received it instantly) Answer: Because millions of sales generate millions...maybe billions of dollars - all sitting in eBay's account. Why pay the owners of that money when you can slip it into the money market overnight - maybe TWO overnights? Only Donald Trump would view this as "good business." well maybe Jeff Bezos too.
You believe this is Ebay looking out for MY security? Heheh! It's me that needs security from EBay!
PS. Yeah, I hear the old comeback "Well if you dislike Ebay so much - why use them? Go find someone else.
I'm not the problem my friend - decency is!

Where's the greed? eBay isn't making money off verifying your banking details. It was either a random account audit or something in your selling history changed in some way, but they're not making anything off this process; if anything they might lose money on any portion of the process that isn't automated. Stop assuming they're out to get you.
And I know you already mentioned it, but if you really feel that way about eBay, I would indeed suggest you find another venue to sell on. I wouldn't stay somewhere I felt that way about.

Ebay looks out for everyone's security, not just yours. Ebay has done random security checks on MP information since they have taken the program site wide.
You can refuse to give Ebay the info they have asked for, it is your choice. You won't be able to sell here in the near future, but you are still entitled to refuse their request. That is your right.
I suggest you do whatever you feel is best for you.
