Back after 15 years/ Seller in Japan.

Hello everyone,

I live in Japan and was an active power seller on eBay over 15 years ago. Recently I have decided to get back into e-commerce, mainly because of the falling  price of the yen, which makes many goods here cheaper than overseas.

I would be more than happy to work with any sellers in the UK/ US or Europe.
Thank you

What are you hoping these other sellers in the UK, USA or Europe could do for you?

@jeremiamcsw0   What exactly do you mean by "working with" other Sellers outside Japan?  If you want to sell on eBay from Japan then go ahead and do that.  If you are implying that you want to be a supplier for drop shippers outside Japan then I would say that's not a good idea ...

So, when your schedule permits please clearly explain what your intentions are ...

A lot has changed in 15 years ...

Thank you for your reply. In the past I sold mainly on the UK eBay and also fra/sp and Italian one. I could never list items on the German eBay as I think you need a special tax number.

I sold mainly on eBay / but I had some regular buyers outside eBay and I could check if items were in stock and they would order a number of parts etc ( I was selling automotive parts mainly )

What’s wrong with drop shipping ? Of course it would mean less profit / but more volume.

The usual warnings about drop shipping are for the sellers who actually do the listings: they don't have control of the items you're selling; they don't know your items' quality; their reputation as a seller depends on you, the drop shipper, doing your part; they would have to deal with returns themselves; they would be in competition with every other seller out there who is listing your same items from the same drop shipper; etc.

But in your case, you are the drop shipper, looking to find sellers for your items, which is not the same thing as far as warnings are concerned. If you think you can make a living being a good drop shipper for other sellers, fine, but you would probably do much better handling the whole sale process yourself, without relying on others to do the selling for you. After all, all they're doing for you is putting up listings that you can just as easily do for yourself; you will have most of the time-consuming activity of photographing and shipping anyway.

I agree with @a_c_green on the drop shipping points they made.  I would add my view that any Seller is only as good as their weakest link ... if a drop shipper lets them hang then they are responsible.  If you want to be the item source for Sellers who drop ship then good luck.  The day will come when you get 5 sales from your Sellers but only have 4 items in stock ... then you are SOL and have to make somebody unhappy.

Too many Sellers see drop shipping as a get rich quick scheme and I think they are generally lazy ... they want the money but don't want to do the work.

Those are my views ... I am sure some will not agree with that and I certainly respect that ...

Thank you for your reply. Are all listings equally  visible ? Are overseas sellers listed below local sellers ?

Start by forgetting pretty much everything you knew from 15 years ago.  The changes to the platform since 2007 are massive.    Of course, if you have continued to buy on eBay, you  have a good idea of many of the changes.

If you haven't already signed up for Managed Payments, that's your first move if you intend to resume selling.

Remember that you will be treated as a new seller, with limits and restrictions on your sales until you re-establish yourself.

Good luck!

Overseas sellers are seen the same as anyone; and if you pay for Promotions, you may even be near the top of the 1st page. But, most US buyers won't buy from anyone outside the US, knowingly, due to the simple time it takes to get the item and/or being afraid of import costs, importing etc.

But, know that 'drop shipping' never works well. You need to buy some merchandise and sell it.

Also know- anything you thought you knew about selling on ebay years ago has completely changed.

Big Changes:

Listings- Buy it Now; now Good Till Cancelled repeating every 30 days

Feedback- no negs for buyers are allowed to be given by sellers

Returns/refunds- are now forced easily by buyers, not to mentions credit card chargebacks can occur up to 6 mos after a purchase is made

Payment- how you get paid (Managed Payments- must give acct number, tax info etc. to eBay- Paypal is gone.

Payments: holds 30-60 days if you start out fast; holds 30-60 days for high dollar items

Search has changed dramatically since 2007:

And eBay now offers Promoted Listings, which you can read about at Seller Center under "Growth"

Managed payments ? What’s that ? You don't get paid using PayPal anymore ?  In the old days, I would only buy the items after I sold them and received payment from the seller.

So they hold the payments for 2-4 weeks? So it’s like Amazon. Seems like a lot could go wrong and sellers have very little power.
What if I spend 2k buying and shipping product, then there h is s one complaint and my account is frozen etc.
