If you list you would be listing for anyone to buy there is no way to create a listing for one specific buyer.

Years ago, when I was still selling (under a different name), this worked for me: List it for a ridiculously high price with Make An Offer. Your would-be buyer offers the price you've agreed on and you accept the offer.
Unless things have changed radically in that area, I don't see why that wouldn't work now.

@helmetguy5 What I've done is a bit cumbersome, but has worked. Since we can't do an exclusive listing, I fix a time frame with my buyer, then list the item in that time frame so they know to grab it. I'll put something in the title like "RESERVED" even though eBay doesn't have reserved listings, but it helps the buyer to know.
Some people just list the item with a ridiculous price then ask their buyer to put in an offer for the amount it normally would go for, and accept the offer. I've never done this, but it's an option.

Well, actually there is - sort of.
Make the title something that only your buyer would understand. Such as: Custom Order #203
Then use a generic picture and a generic description - i.e. repeat Custom Order #203
Then co-ordinate with your buyer so that you list it, immediate;y send him the eBay item link and instruct him to buy it immediately.
Now it is true that everyone can seer the listing but nobody will understand it and it won't come up in any searchers.

I would recommend like @soh.maryl suggested. I still do that.

I would do what @richard1rst said.
Except he forgot to mention.
The moment you create the listing, before your customer has a chance to buy it, some third party will jump in and buy it. 😉

And that's why you list your $40 widget for $4,555.
