Sellers--
Have you ever answered a question on the community and then immediately blocked the person? I have (and just did)! I'm not talking about the people who come here and give negatives for not receiving extras. I'm talking about buyers who come here requesting cancellations after 5 minutes, my kid/cat/dog bought something and I want to cancel, etc. They don't want to hear the truth, which is what we tell. While some frequent posters have a light touch, I'm not very good at answering gently. I am honest and quite blunt--too blunt sometimes. A sarcastic font would help too, as sarcasm doesn't translate to the typed word.

Absolutely, these boards are fantastic for that, I always thank the poster for posting as well - only seems fair as they have done me a favour.

I think its common sense to do so. Weeds them out early . . .
I don't use my selling id for posting, either, because I've seen the posters you're describing get really ugly with people who use a selling id to post, threatening to make purchases and cause all kinds of mayhem to their selling accounts if they don't like the answers they get on a thread.
Conversely, since there's no "Blocked Sellers" list, I've been tempted a time or two--especially lately--to ask certain sellers to add me to their BBL! Especially the ones who give "soft" negative feedback to buyers, or have posted those horribly unprofessional replies to negative feedback they've received, or want add restocking fees, or advise sellers to cancel transactions based on "problem with the buyer's address" when there isn't one.
We can learn a lot from the Community--buyers and sellers alike--I'd say.

Really good points @eleanor*rigby . There are some really entitled posters here.

It would be very rare to do that. Unless the person happens to buy things that are the same as you sale. Also the odds of someone happening to buy your stuff is millions to one. Why just keep making a BBL list longer and longer unless it just makes you feel good or it just boosts your ego.

The odds of being killed by an earthquake are 1 in 150,000.
The odds of being killed by a flood are 1 in 175,000.
The odds of being killed by fireworks are 1 in 400,000.
The odds of being struck by lightning are 1 in 3 million.
The odds of being killed by a venomous animal are 1 in 4 million.
The odds of being hit by a falling airplane part are 1 in 10 million.
There are 160 million active eBay users in any given year.
What are the chances that the 1 seller you are looking at on this message board is going to buy something from you?

Yes, I have. I did today with the Seller who started a thread and then called every person who disagreed with him a not nice name.
Life is too short to deal with that.
Remember the guy who started the 92 threads and one was about joining a union? He kept posting with his buying ID to agree with himself and someone outed him. I BBL'd both of those as well. 🙂

Sellers have so few protections, so why wouldn't we use the ones we have at our disposal? Why use posting id's? If you aren't worried then why not use your real selling id? This is to anyone in general who uses a posting id.

Exactly - I use a posting id because the things suggested by ms*havisham can happen.
Why take a chance on a snarky member harming my livlihood because they dont like my 'avi' or that I am from Oz, or any myriad of reasons some posters take the low road.

I think you've completely missed the gist of the original post.
Now, as to your response, the member in question was a BUYER, not a SELLER. And, since the OP was posting in his/her thread, the member probably saw it, right?
So the chances, rather than those you posted for earthquakes, floods, fireworks, lightening, venomous animals and falling airplanes, are getting much closer to 1:1.

🤣 In fact, most of my BBL consists of IDs I came across on these boards….just in case! It’s prompted by the attitudes demonstrated in what they write, rather than being connected to any answers I offer. Most of the time when I feel I have something helpful to offer….I find another poster has already said much the same thing so there’s no need to repeat it.

Not having a go at you lucky, I agree the odds are small, but it is sometimes a small world in eBay.
Twice it has happened over here on the Oz boards that a seller/buyer has come to complain about something - and you guessed it, the other party involved just happened to come in to do the same and stumble upon the thread.
No carp - it has happened twice (a long time apart I admit) and on both occasions it really did lend credence to > 3 sides to every story
My side
Your side
And the truth, it was an entertaining read to say the least.
Admittedly doesn't happen often, but..............

I have done so, as I'm sure have many others - this is nothing new at all.
ETA: Niche sellers would tend to run into this kind of thing more than most other sellers, I would think, due to a smaller pool of buyers.

Oh yes, I have blocked many a fool crybaby poster from here. I now know I will never have to deal with them.
I also block buyers with significant feedback scores that have never left a feedback for their trade partners.
I take much joy in sending them a "I'll leave feedback if it is left for me." message and then blocking them like it's 1999. Buyers can't have all the fun.....

Message 4 followed by Message 5 made me laugh out loud.
If you ever watched Mary Tyler Moore it was like when they made a comment in the newsroom and then Ted Baxter walked in.
I have blocked a few from here but the categories I sell in most of these entitled folks aren't shopping for those types of items, so knock on wood it's been rare to run across any of them on my seller account.
