BANNED AND ROBBED!

EBAY JUST told us that they banned my son account who sold and SHIPPED 2000dollars worth of his toys!

The email is received and no explanation listed on the email or the account so we called and same answer. No explanation will be given. They tell us they do not have to explain!

The account was showing 2000$ worth of sales (customers received their packages already) and now the money is gone showing 0 on his account and customer service won't help or link any bank account to his banned account newly created account.

He spent weeks selling his toys and they can just do that! take the money, not explain, not allow him to link his bank account to send it later. Just took it!

I am going online and I see other people with exactly the same complains. Is this a scam? Does anyone ever see their money back?

Can anyone help?

Is your son under 18 years of age?

Re: BANNED AND ROBBED!

As a new seller, the money from the sale of any items is held for 30 days and for good reason.  The 30 day money back guarantee states that an item can be returned and the seller must refund.  It is easier if the money is held and not already spent.

Did he set up a checking account before the sales were made?  Did he provide a social security number?  These are mandatory to get paid and for reporting to the IRS.

As for the suspension, could it be age related?  Sellers must be 18+.

Jumping in with both feet before reading the rules is never a good idea.

Re: BANNED AND ROBBED!

Bans can suck, and eBay may or may not ever tell you exactly why it occurred.

The more information they reveal the more people will know how to go around it.

eBay doesn't just take people's money, they will hold it, and it could take some time until it gets to you as it will most likely be issued eventually to the state as unclaimed property.

Basically all people here get their money, if they didn't it would literally be chaos here.

Re: BANNED AND ROBBED!

How old is your son?
To open an account on eBay the seller must be 18.

To open a Managed Payments account the seller must be 18, give his SSN, and attach a checking account.

A checking account with a bank, because that $2000 will be reported so he can pay the income taxes on it.

The phone reps have a terrible reputation for getting you off the phone as soon as possible even if that means giving you the advice you want to hear instead of the advice you need to have.

The social media Chat accounts are covered by trained eBay employees with some authority.
And you get a transcript so you can compare what you heard with what you were told.

Re: BANNED AND ROBBED!

This is just the beginning, if your son was doing something wrong, and he lives with you or either of you have accessed your eBay accounts at each other's houses on shared internet, your account will probably be banned as well.

Re: BANNED AND ROBBED!

Your underage(?) son could open a joint checking account with you, and then use that to back a Managed Payments account.

EBay tends to be unconcerned about the actual age of members, although minors cannot be held to most contracts which may be a concern, so having the eBay account in his name is less of a worry. That's more an eBay rule than a state/national law.

It's certainly worth your time to get that joint checking account and set up Managed Payments.

However greedy eBay is, and they do want to make as much money as they can, it's not personal.

Try the joint bank account. Or if there already is a bank account attached, with SSN, arrange with the bank to add your (adult) name to it.
I usually tell minors who are planning on selling online, that the bank account should be "both to sign" to prevent adult fraud (Jackie Coogan anyone?) or adolescent foolishness.

Re: BANNED AND ROBBED!

A new account selling a couple thousand dollars worth of toys in a couple weeks?

What did the email say was the reason for suspending the account.

If you don't know yet, any account they associate with his will also be suspended.

Have a great day.

Re: BANNED AND ROBBED!

Well, the truth is eBay told you or your son why they banned his account. He also received prior warnings, probably. Try including that in your post.

Re: BANNED AND ROBBED!

There is always a reason. I agree with what the others stated. My hunch too was that the kid was underage.  Were the toys expensive gaming systems?  DId ebay ask him for receipts? If yes, you must submit them to ebay.  Ebay needs proof that the pricey gaming systems are not stolen.

As the others posted, if your son's account went down in flames, it won't be long before yours goes down too.  It's called Guilty by Association and ebay is trying to keep ebay safe.

IF your son has access to his old emails, he needs to see why ebay banned him. There is always at least 1 reason.

Write to the Ebay Facebook team.  Explain briefly.  Make sure that you state son's name, EBAY ID .  Give them your name and Ebay ID.  Too late to keep this private since you posted here.  At least, get information on how to get the funds.  If worse comes to worse, they will be sent to your home state as unclaimed property.

Goodluck.   Let us know the outcome.
