I am a first time seller. I sold a collectable and it said sold and gave me an address so I shipped the item and added the tracking number to the transaction. It now says awaiting payment. The item sold on 7/1 and it is now 7/3. What do I do? Did I send my item too soon? I don’t want to lose out on my item and the selling price. I just checked into my paypal account the other day and did not see any issues on that side, but I also didn’t see any money from the transaction either.

Never ship unless paypal tells you to. Is there a transaction in Paypal?

Hopefully you didn't lose too much, chances of the buyer paying are super slim now.

it said sold and gave me an address...
What is "it" in your above statement? An email?

It is confusing.
If you look at the eBay notification, it should say "Get ready to ship".
Then you wait for the money to arrive in your Paypal account, and THEN you ship.
However, as a new seller, there will be a Hold on the customer's payment.
Don't panic.
This is just a (heavy handed) Buyer Protection. Scammy sellers can't get the customer's money and run.
But YOU (an honest seller) can use those Held funds to buy a shipping label.
And you probably get a discount on the label price too.
There is a learning curve.
I really hope this will not turn into an expensive lesson.
Most people are honest.

The unless you can do a package intercept, you are toast. There is nothing Paypal or Ebay can do for you at this point since you shipped without being paid.
NEVER, EVER, EVER ship anything until you FIRST check Paypal. If there is no transaction for that item and if the money is not in your Paypal account, YOU HAVE NOT BEEN PAID.
You were scammed with a fake Paypal email.

I read the entire thread, this is what I think happened...
You sold an item (what was it if I may ask)?
You got a notification from eBay that said sold.
You found an address to ship to in "my eBay" and went ahead and shipped.
You logged into Paypal and saw no money.
You logged back into eBay and the status of the transaction is "awaiting payment".
It doesn't sound like you were scammed intentionally by a buyer, but rather you jumped the gun and went and shipped without being paid. Uploading tracking will show your item is moving and the buyer (if not honest) will probably not pay.
If your item is expensive and you don't want to lose it, please follow the URL in the other posts to intercept your package immediately.
Let us know how this goes.
Cheers, C.

@famcur-0 -- As other posters have already mentioned, never ship an item until you can see that you've been paid when you login directly to your PayPal account and check. But let's put that aside for a moment.
You may still be okay, but it would help if you could answer some additional questions and then others here may be able to provide more help/clarity.
1. Go into your eBay "Solds" item "dashboard." What does it say in the three columns that I've marked below with red arrows?
If there's a black check in the second column, that means your buyer completed the "Checkout Process."
If you hover your cursor over the field with the "$" sign which should be black, it should say something like "Paid with PayPal on 7/1/2018."
If both of these two indicators are as I just described, that means you buyer DID pay for the item. If not, please tell us what those three columns indicate/say.
2. If it appears all is good on your sales dashboard, next log into your PayPal account directly vai www.paypal.com (not through eBay, a link in an email, text message, etc). Go to your Summary PayPal Account page. Is there any indication on that page that says one of your transactions is "Pending?"
When you're a new seller, eBay/PayPal puts a hold on your funds for 21 days. Since you are a new seller, it's possible that the reason why the funds aren't showing up in your PayPal balance is because the funds are being held. Such funds are noted with a staus of "Pending."
There are ways to get your funds released sooner than 21 days so don't panic, but let's not muddy the waters with that now. First, let us know what you see/find regarding the two items/questions I asked about above, and we can try to advise you from there.

I went to the url and requested it be returned to sender. Thank you so much for your help. I hope to not make that mistake again. What do I do if they wind up,paying though, I’ve already spent what I had on jumping the gun shipping it. Do I need to honor that sale, do I relist it, do I just keep it as a prize of my first screw up on eBay?

The ethical thing to do if they pay is to ship it out again. It's going to cost money, mistakes always cost time and money. If you cancel the sale you risk negative feedback and a defect on your account (which will quickly end your days selling).
Hopefully the shipping wasn't too expensive, but you won't make this mistake again I'm sure.
Cheers, C.

Maybe they will pay if you open an unpaid item case?
