Avoid a mistake

Please don't do what I did and loose money.  I sold a coin to a "member" who complained that it was not the same coin in my photo.  It was the exact coin I showed, the only one I had of this type and date.

To avoid any hassle  agreed to a refund of the purchase price.  In 20 years I had never had to make a refund and I stupidly made an instant refund before I received my coin back.

This thief never returned the coin and eBay now tells me he is entitled to keep it!

I think eBay's non existent customer service stinks and this policy stinks but after many emails to the buyer who answers i broken  pig English I don't have money or coin.

Hard to believe my mistake made a jerk out of me and ebay sides with this thief.

Because of this experience, a simple mistake while trying to be nice I will direct whatever purchases I have in the future elsewhere..,  I also have several large value items I would like to sell, 5 figure watches, but I'll never list them on eBay.

And it's not just the 100 bucks I lost, it's the cavalier attitude of jerks running the company.

So, just to be clear, you're going to boycott eBay for a mistake YOU made? After selling on eBay for 20 years?

Accepting the responsibility for the mistakes we make helps us to move forward.

Sorry for this expensive lesson, but a lesson nonetheless.

To moving forward with much success,

So Ebay is the 'jerk' in this scenario? Ok.

eBay does not have access to the buyer's funding source.

Even if they did, eBay has no legal authority to take money from the buyer.

eBay cannot go to the buyer's house and force him to return the coin.

Exactly what would you expect eBay to do?  Just give you money out of their pocket?

@cws41 Ok, take a deep breath here and re-read some of your own statements...I cannot believe that you would " instantly "refund this payment without getting the coin back!!!! But alas you did, it's gone and this one is on you, not ebay, not the President...but you,  a seasoned seller no less.

eBay does that all the time.

"Hard to believe my mistake made a jerk out of me..."

It didn't.

I have made many palm-to-face dumb mistakes in life, maybe everyone has.

It shakes you to the core to feel taken advantage of, even for a mistake, but wait, there's more!

The path you take away from the mistake is more important than the mistake itself. You cannot undo the past, but you can victimize yourself in the present.

It is unfortunate, I know you have been on Ebay a long time however your account shows you only sell a little bit over those 20 years.  This was a rookie mistake.  We all have to learn our jobs.  And being a seller is a job.  Before you do something you are unfamiliar with, like in any other job you have likely had in your life, don't assume something, research it so you know how to best handle a situation.

I know you have learned this the hard way, but Ebay is not at fault here in any way.  This one is all on you.  We have all had them.  Any seller that tells you that they have never made a mistake that cost them money is likely not being very candid if they have been selling for any length of time.

OK, here is what I'd do if this were my issue.  First off I would file a police report, locally and if necessary in the buyer's jurisdiction.  Then I would formally report the buyer to Ebay so that it goes on their record, making sure they note the police report numbers.  Then I would notify my buyer in a professional and I stress professional email that I have reported the issue to the police and that you are notifying and filing a Mail Fraud report with USPS which is a federal crime.  Using USPS in any form to perpetrate a fraud is a federal crime.

Then see what happens.  I wish you the best of luck.
