Automatically enrolled in International shipping!

Just received an Ebay message.... I'm not sure if this is a good thing.

Any thoughts in this would be appreciated.

I could’ve sworn that that note is something that you, the seller, must add.

I wonder if eBay ‘s artificial intelligence saw that note under a couple of your international sales, and just started adding it on its own.  Sort of like an auto fill capability that we see on a iPhone.

@fbusoni   Yes, I definitely noticed that it's in their "My Notes" section & AFAIK you have to enter your own notes into there.  Hmmmm.

Re: Automatically enrolled in International shipping!

For everyone discussing the notes (sorry to the OP, we kinda derailed your thread), I just noticed another order come through with the note, and it's going to Puerto Rico, via USPS Ground Advantage, not via the eIS, so that's not the determining factor as far as I can tell.

@fbusoni  Nope, I never added one of those notes manually, and it shows up slightly differently than ones I do add manually.

@jonathanbrightlight  interesting.  I use that field a lot for my own notes, so I'll have to check into it further, esp with @fbusoni  saying it's in a different location than the manually added ones.   But I am working on negotiations for selling a house, so IDK when I'll get to it.  It's not really important, it's just a curiousity as to why I don't get it.  I'm pretty certain I've never seen it on my Awaiting Shipment page either cuz I think I'd remember that.

I actually see it on the Awaiting Shipment page (and the other pages, it persists) in Seller Hub on both my desktop for work (Windows 11 using Firefox), my Mac laptop at home running an old OS and Chrome browser, and on my iPhone using the latest version of the app.  It shows up just like a manually added seller note or a customer note on an order, but below the order instead of above.  That is weird that it doesn't show for you!  I don't think there's a setting for it, but I'm curious now so I might dig into that!

@jonathanbrightlight  I know we've kind of derailed the thread, but OP got her answer mulitple times, so I think we're ok.  This is really bugging me.  Is your bolded statement above (bolding mine) saying that when you add your own note, it appears ABOVE the order?  I'm asking b/c I use that field a lot for my own notes & they show up highlighted, both in Awaiting Shipment & in Orders & it's ALWAYS BELOW the order.  Am I understanding you correctly that yours normally appear above???  Here's an example, it's hard to see that it's in yellow highlight, but it is, though it looks almost pink in my pics.  Gray day here LOL.

Re: Automatically enrolled in International shipping!

Nah, I was misremembering. There are certain types of notes that appear above the order and I was mixing them up with those. This last one reminded me that not only do they show up just like notes you add, they even say “My Note” and can be edited just like other notes you might add.

Re: Automatically enrolled in International shipping!

I'm sorry I majorly disagree -  for the following reasons

1. Longer delivery to seller as it's shipping domestically first and needs to get rehandled

2. higher costs for the seller as if you have free domestic you have calculate in the domestic shipping cost for the international buyer so they are basically paying for shipping twice (this is what I just encountered(

3. Risk of further damage with unknown 3rd party handling the item and having no history of said item

4. Return situation - frankly no idea, but I have a no return policy and they seem to over ride that so it's a whole other issue

If you opt out of it a whole other suite of issues arises biggest of which is that all cost effective options for shipping internationally are no longer available to select if you opt out of eBay shipping

Basically you can no longer ship internationally if you don't use eBay international shipping service but it either reduces your profit or increases the cost to the buyer.   It delays delivery of the item to the buyer and puts the item in transit longer and more handling leading to higher risk of damage.

So from my perspective this is a no win situation for the buyer and seller.

If you opt out, all the cost effective international shipping carrier options are no longer available in eBay to select.   We own a business (not run through eBay) and ship 50% of our goods internationally and the options on ebay are crazy expensive unless you opt into their service which does the following:

Re: Automatically enrolled in International shipping!

because if you offer free domestic shipping and a best offer option the international buyer offers you less as they are paying for shipping, but ebay keeps that shipping fee and you as the seller if you take the lower offer still have to pay to ship domestically... so you lose on your profits .....

but the cost effective options are not available for shipping there if you opt out unless I'm missing something....

So don't take the offer?  Same as any other sale.

Re: Automatically enrolled in International shipping!

@cara-323

Just a little added information that you may find useful.  You also may want to read through the EIS policy pages as I think you will find it enlightening.

1.  All US sellers, when shipping have to use the Domestic carrier system first before it hits international shipping.  But you are correct, having the pit stop at an Ebay Hub can cause a little more time on delivery.

2.  Sellers do NOT have increased costs.  The sellers will pay the FVFs on the amount of money the buyer actually pays them.  That is shipping to the Ebay hub.  The shipping beyond that to the buyer has not FVF charged to the seller.  So FVFs can be cheaper than shipping directly to the buyer.

3.  I'm not seeing that as an issue.  Of course it is possible that some sellers have experienced that.  But for the seller side of this, once the Ebay hub accepts the package, the seller's responsibility is done.  Now it is all the responsibility of Ebay.  Any damage will be taken care of by Ebay.

4.  Any return for any reason is at Ebay's expense.  Ebay handles it.  Again, once it is accepted at the Ebay hub, ALL seller responsibility ends.

Another savings for sellers is that those that use EIS do not pay the 1.65% international fee.  The risk for sellers is substantially lower and the cost to the seller is LESS using this program.

You could substantially benefit by opening your mind a bit and take another look at this program, because it is a very good one for sellers.

EIS is a great program. I encourage you to read about it and decide for yourself if it will work for you. It takes almost all the risk for international shipping off the sellers.
