Authenticity

Is there anywhere on eBay to get help with authenticating branded goods? We get a lot of 'Designer' items donated to us and sometimes it is very difficult to decide whether they're genuine or not. We obviously research online but there's not always relevant information.

Re: Authenticity

eBay does offer an authenticate service where you send your bags to them, and if they deem your badge anyone they will list them and give you part of the profit.

However, there has been a lot of complaints about this service passing off fake bags of genuine, making pay out more difficult than it should be, and deeming genuine bags fake.

There is a clothing board here and those ladies are pretty good at spotting genuine or fake bags.

Re: Authenticity

TYVM 4 being Helpful. Are you aware of services for other items? Im shocked (for one example) in the coin market.Too many sellers getting away with obviously non existent inauthentic items. Perhaps the most upsetting part of it-many inexperienced collectors on eBay are young, possible limited funds to be subject to rip offs. Prices can go quite high. Ive searched & searched for eBay Authenticate; also from Handbags link attempted higher menu-no luck finding other items.

Keep in mind that the only way to know 100% without a doubt that something is authentic is to buy it in person

@ipster11

unfortunately unless coins ect become as insanely popular as hangbags, eBay won't find a 3rd party like they did for purses

Re: Authenticity

Thanks for quick reply, willingness to assist.
Today, "all listings" in USA only,US coin totals 1,063,639
Designer handbags "all listings" in USA only totals 55,366
I have no idea, the fraction of total listings items represent.

You are correct, up to eBay to choose authentication guides as with Music, Software, Designer wear & accessories. Many items are so easily identified as inauthentic-easily and non subjectively verified or not. Reviews do help, (one example) a short user review reminded buyers Authentic Vuarnet Sunglasses bear engraved Roman "V" on lenses.
Reviews are all I can think of at this time.
