Authenticity Guarantee

How do I escalate an issue beyond eBay's customer service regarding Authenticity Guarantee? I recently sold a watch which was shipped to an Authenticator. However, the customer canceled the sale because the Authenticator claimed the watch was "missing tubes" and deemed it damaged. Brendan, the Ebay customer service representative for Authenticity Guarantee, contacted me and explained the reason for the cancellation. I was shocked! Although he mentioned that the call was being recorded, when I requested a copy, I was informed that it couldn't be provided to me.

I have been the sole owner of the watch and have always ensured it received proper care, including taking it to a reputable jeweler for battery replacements. Thus, you can imagine my shock upon learning that the watch was being returned, resulting in the cancellation of the sale.

Upon receiving my watch back yesterday afternoon, I promptly took it to the same jeweler who had replaced all the batteries in the past. After a thorough examination, he confirmed that there was nothing wrong with it and that it was functioning as intended. Additionally, he clarified that this particular kind of watch does not have "tubes," and he was unsure what the Authenticator was referring to. He even adjusted the time and hands several times without encountering any issues. Furthermore, he mentioned that whoever had opened the watch had been rough with the gold screws on the back. Great....

In an attempt to rectify the situation, I requested that the jeweler provide me with a letter on their letterhead, which I included in an email to eBay today. However, I promptly received a response from Brendan, echoing his previous stance, indicating that they were unable to assist me with this specific situation or sale. He suggested that I relist the watch again and expressed hope that he had fully addressed my concerns.

This response is completely unacceptable! Moreover, I am seriously reconsidering whether I want to continue conducting business on eBay. In summary, I lost a sale due to the Authenticator's judgment and the shortcomings of the Authenticity Guarantee program, wasting three hours of my time in the process.

Any suggestions or ideas from the community on how to escalate this issue beyond Brendan in the Authenticity Guarantee department would be greatly appreciated.

Authenticity Guarantee

I'm not an expert in this matter, but I would think if ebay is unable to authenticate for any reason, even if they made a mistake or are flat out wrong, there is nothing more that can be done.

There is no way to MAKE them says it's authentic.

Relist it and give a better description.

Have a great day.

You received your watch back. What more do you expect?

Like @inhawaii said, "there is no way to make them say it's authentic."

Watches are usually authenticated by a 3rd party...which we all know.

And we all know it's a watch repair shop in Dayton, Ohio.

And it's no secret it is Stoll & Co.

I found out reading posts on here in the past...so I guess it's OK to say since it was stated here in the past by other members.

And "yelp" also has reviews where eBay is mentioned...

Sometimes one gets lucky where it is authenticated...and sometimes not.

I don't recommend re-listing it.

Can you do a consignment in a watch shop or sell it locally....
