Authenticity Failed due to Wrong Size

Hey everyone, so I had this listing for a pair of shoes, I added variations for sizing as I had multiple sizes of the same pair. A few days after shipping them I got notified that I sent out the wrong sizes and had to pay return shipping for them. I have been doing this a long time and had never switched up any pairs but I just assumed that maybe I had just made the mistake. Upon doing some investigating, the listing had a default size of 8.5, while the two buyers had chosen 9.5 and 10.5. From what I can tell is ebay authenticators do not care what size the buyers choose for variations and instead just look at the listing default.

Fast forward a bit, I sold another pair in a similar fashion and just shipped them out. I only recently discovered what I wrote above and so now I am worried that ebay will once again cancel all my pairs and have me pay return shipping for sending "wrong sizes". Anyone have any idea as to what I should do or if there is any way around it now that I have already shipped my items?

@rizwakha_1acxo  put all the sizes in the size box or no sizes in the size box or list separately (not a variation listing), the safest with the least confusion.

when i list variations for identical shoe styles but with different colors and-or sizes, in the variation description, i put

white size 9

blue size 8

etc

but my listed items do not go to the authenticator

I typically put both in my listing title and description sizes 8-12 available for example, I have gone ahead and removed the size that was automatically listed there but I am not sure if it's too late or if they can still see it. Any grounds for arguing with ebay about this? Buyers clearly chose the size they wanted.

This is one problem with variation listings I wish eBay would fix.

When there is only one variation left in stock and the other variations are sold out, eBay pre-selects that variation for the buyer. This has created numerous issues when, for example, the lead listing image shows all variations available and buyer is not forced to select which variation they want before purchase. Since they weren't forced to choose color blue, the only one left, they think they are getting all colors.

One might say the lead image should be updated, but that's not reasonable because usually I have more stock coming in so I'm not going to keep changing the lead listing image just because there are a couple weeks where I only have one color available. Or sometimes an item is selling fast so it's not reasonable to expect I can be there to change anything between the time other colors sell out and there are only 3 left of the last color.

Buyer should be forced to select the variation even when there is only one left. It should never be pre-selected. Buyer should be forced to see that the other variations are out of stock and they are choosing the one left.

And now we have a new problem resulting from the variation default: the reps at the authentication center weren't trained on checking size on the order when buyer purchased from a variation listing.

kyle@ebay, would be great if you could escalate this feedback. Also, is there a process for the OP to appeal these extra shipping charges due to authentication center error?

You should never have the different sizes listed in the title OR in the description on a variation listing.

ONLY show available sizes in the variation drop down box.

Sorry if I was unclear, the only variations listed were the ones I had available. For example, for my last listing, I had sizes between 8.5-12 available. I sold all but the size 12 and shipped out pairs accordingly. However, the default size on the listing which I assume eBay's listing system must have set when I was originally setting up the listing, was a size 12. Originally I thought that did not matter since the buyer selects which size they want anyway but I guess eBay's authenticators only look at the size that was preset on the listing and therefore fail authentication for anything other than that size.

Yes and the title still shows that..... ..even though you DO NOT have all sizes any longer.

What does that have to do with anything? I had those sizes available, I sold 6/7 pairs all in the same day, and the sizes that were no longer available showed out of stock. I shouldn't have to remove variations for items that are sold and I never have had to do such a thing in the past.

@rizwakha_1acxo   as u stated, your legit argument would be that u sent the size that the buyer chose, not the eBay default size.

A variations listing has no default.

The buyer MUST select a size/color/flavor/whatever.

The only time it defaults is if there is only ONE variation left.

That is why I don't like those choice listings.  I do understand a large seller might not want to have a listing for each size but it's safer.   I avoid buying from such listings too if I can find a non choice listing for the same item.

Hey @wastingtime101 you bet!  That's some valuable feedback.  I've gone ahead and shared this with the appropriate teams.

As for OP, @rizwakha_1acxo I'd definitely recommend contacting our CS agents here to see what remedy they can offer for those charges.
