Authentication Center Delays

I sold a gold and diamond ring to a buyer on the 13th of this month (April, 2024) and Ebay required it to be shipped to their 'Authentication Center' in CA (The buyer was in WV) and it arrived there and was signed for on the 17th.  ___ Ebay 'suggested' that it would be shipped out between the 22nd and no later than the 26th (yesterday) and today, the 27th, nothing has changed.

Is this normal?  10 days to authenticate this ring and I included the jewelers' appraisal with the item.  I'm flabbergasted and the buyer's patience is wearing thin and I don't blame him, but obviously, I am powerless to do anything other than wait.

Anyone have a similar experience?

This was my first time dealing with this 'requirement.'

Authentication Center Delays

I've had things authenticated, and it moved pretty fast. But my items were not jewelry.

I wonder if you would get better info by posting this in the Jewelry forum.

Authentication Center Delays

I can only conclude that the "Authentication Centers" are an A idea with an F execution in a LOT of cases.  I've taken a look at a number, actually a legion,  of other complaints and I'm aware that usually negative responses dominate online but this is out of the ordinary. In my case with what would have been a simple sale before the Authentication Centers,  became a frustrating waiting game for myself and the buyer.  In the end they had the ring with the jewelers appraisal and after two weeks there, two weeks,  I finally got a terse "Item wasn't as described"  (???????) and they returned the ring. Fine. I'm VERY glad to have it back.

There was NO specificity  other than, evidently they didn't agree with our jeweler, and I only listed what was on our jeweler's appraisal.  What did they disagree with in their assessment that differed from our jeweler's apprasal?  Our jewelers  are the leading jeweler in our entire area with an impeccable reputation.

We've sold and bought on Ebay for many years and hava 100% positive feedback and this has simply added to our intention to end our sales over the next year.

I truly understand the reasons for the Authentication Centers, but if this was any indication of how they operate (and the frustration on the boards with those centers indicates it is in many, many cases) I wish them well on their future high end jewelry sales.  They're going to need it.
