Please dont do auctions. All you have to do is look and you can see many many items sold at a much lower price because the items were sold at auction. Also don't go to the sold items and set your price based on that alone, set your price a little above that. eBay is turning decent items into cheap items.

Agree. Except maybe raise your price more than just a little above that. eBay sellers clearly aren’t keeping up with the inflation that’s going on all around us, unlike our costs and overhead.

Better to move it to an auction site that actually functions properly without all the cons..

Even if the site had a far below average 5% listed to sold weekly rate it would be nearing 💯 % Better than the monthly 0.6% rate we see here..

I wouldn't stop just because of a flake attempt.

Why would you care what others do?

Pwrsonally, I don't do auctions, but I don't care if other seller want to run auctions. Go for it.

That is a decision for each seller to make for themselves.  Because they didn't work well for you does not mean they won't work well for another seller in a different category.

Auctions really don't work well in most categories, but some that tend to do well with auctions is collectibles, coins, paper money, etc.  Things people collect.

Ebay is NOT turning your items into "cheap" items.  I'm not even sure how they would be able to do that.

Each seller has to understand completely the fees they pay to Ebay, the cost to ship the item, the materials they need to package them and the cost of the product being sold.  After you add all that together, then you put your profit margin on that number to arrive at the price you need to sell your item at.   Most sellers understand this process.  Those that don't won't usually last here long.

I use the auction format almost exclusively for a couple of reasons but I have done market research and I now where to set my starting price.

First with BIN you will never get more than your asking price unless it is a scam attempt but the main reason I use the auction format is time. I don't include a BIN price on my auction listings and I don't use OBO. I start all auctions on Sunday and end them the following Sunday which pretty much leaves me free during the week to pursue other activities rather than monitoring eBay every day for sales and potentially worrying about having to pack and ship items every day of the week. A lot of the items I sell on auction are one bid items, which is fine, and would have equated to the same selling price I would have used had I listed it as BIN.
