Hi all, I was selling a heavy item (generator) as a Local Pickup Only. Naturally, the bidder did not sufficiently read the listing (even though I included "local pickup only" in bold, uppercase letters), bid and won the item. He lives 1,000 miles away. He wants to send a carrier to pick up the item. I don't want to do that. It's too heavy and it's not convenient for a carrier to come to my home. He has not yet paid.
When I bring up the menu to cancel the order, I'm presented with these options:
1. Out of stock or damaged
2. Buyer asked to cancel (he didn't)
3. Issue with buyers shipping address.
I'm somewhat aware that each reason can affect what happens next. Which option puts me in the best position regarding:
1. Getting my seller fees back without cooperation of the buyer.
2. Not getting -FB

if the buyer has not paid the there are no real fees to recoup on a regular item
I would advise you to use problem with buyers address since its of no use to you..
the buyer needs to use your address for pickup. that in turn makes his address no good
this is kind of a sticky wicket. on the other hand you could wait 96 hours and cancel for non payment.
as far as feedback thats not an issue yet

If i am not mistaken, but local pickup requires the buyer to pick the item up where they can scan the QR code as picked up.
I would message the buyer and let them know that 3rd party shipping companies are not allowed and give them the option to pick it up in person. If they decline, you can choose cancel because of shipping address.
I am not sure about the tax liability as well. Normally the buyer pays the state sales tax in their state for the purchase, not where you are buying it from. (collected by Ebay)
Keep the messages positive and to the point because feedback can still be an issue unfortunately.

I would also do as others have suggested; let the 4 days go by and cancel due to "Buyer has not paid". If they DO pay, then cancel using address problem. I would block them, and also would not respond to anything more from them either.

Is it really that simple? I can file an NPB after 96 hours and that's the end of it?
Doesn't eBay require me to re-invoice or something?
I'm not a very active seller these days so I'm not always up on the latest seller-hostile shenanigans that eBay gets up to.

Interesting... Where is this QR code for local pickup? I mean, I know what QR codes are in general, but how does that play into LPU? What's the process? I was planning to offer the buyer some significant freebies in return for paying with cash.

You aren't filing a NPB case, you are actually cancelling. Big difference.
Also, there is no seller requirement to provide an invoice x amount of times...none

Sorry, not seeing how to do that. The menu for cancellation doesn't include "buyer didn't pay" or anything like that. The menu only includes the options I listed in my OP.

No need (or even an option) to file NPB, once 96 hours has passed, you get the option to close the case for that reason. Non-paying buyer gets the strike as before. Do not invoice them, some people say that resets the 96 hour clock, some say it makes no difference, but why chance it unless you DO want them to pay?

You've already been given great advice. I just wanted to recommend that when you list Pickup Only items in the future ... you put your message at the very TOP of the Description ... in color so that it stands out:
