As a seller, Ebay is going downhill

So sad Ebay is going downhill Fast. I sold a purse description used, took pictures of all parts of the purse. NO returns is an option and I chose it. I washed and hung up the purse before selling it. I get an email from buyer claiming it has black, yellow and sticky gross on it. She says I found a new one for a little more.  As you can see by all pictures this item is clean as can be. I call Ebay. Shania says sounds like buyers remorse. We are in your favor. Call back on Friday. I ask why, she says thats when I have to call back. Later that day I get an email stating they decided in buyers favor! ????? So I call and talk with a supervisor, Christy tells me she gave me wrong info and they will take care of it. Just to take a picture of the purse when I get it back and show it is still clean. I explain, I took great photos, NOT tampered with, Option is NO returns, and description is AS shown. I get the purse back. NO black, NO yellow, NO sticky. So I take pictures and call Ebay again! I get Trudy an appeals specialist. She tells me NO i dont need your pictures????? Huh? I can appeal but the buyer gets her money back. Maybe even return shipping!! I made 7.00 on a Vera Bradley purse. I paid 20 back to the buyer plus return shipping. And OH ebay is gonna keep the original fees. So a 5.00 profit turned into a 32.00 loss!!!!   These are there NEW policies she tells me! Why have an opition for NO returns then???    I think I will sell my stuff on another site! Good luck EBAY  I have been with them since they started pretty much. Without Sellers you have no BUYERS!!

Good Lord!  A year?  Time passes so quickly.  I haven't looked at this thread in over 6 months.

Gratitude to everyone who took the time to respond and rebut on this topic.  The "Conclusion" for me, has been that I now sell my Items on a number of different venues outside of eBay, where I am selling about 40-50 Items per month.

I no longer list anything new on eBay, where I sell only 3 or 4 items per month.  Whatever is currently listed in my store, The Wizard's Hold, is all that's left.  When those One-Of-A-Kind items are gone, I will be gone from eBay as well.  I'm no longer making enough money here to pay for my Store subscription, which is only "Basic".

To all of you who remain as Sellers with eBay, I wish the best of luck.  Stay aware of eBay's constantly changing policies, and combat them when necessary.  Keep fighting for your rights as Sellers, and one day eBay might be as attractive a selling-venue as it once was, 10 years ago.

Thank you all for your helpful advice and encouragement over the years; so many great arguments, conversations, and memories!

Best Regards,

The Wizard's Hold

If Ebay could read and actually UNDERSTAND what we have here, they would unlock the giant mystery that the Inept goon (DW) at the top can't seem to figure out. This story could be repeated 50000 times over by former sellers and is EXACTLY why Ebay is tanking.

Here you have seller last year talking about low sales. Said seller finally has enough and starts testing other waters and low and behold those aren't so bad. Now, flash forward a year and seller is all but non-existent on Ebay, taking his interesting and unique inventory with him.

All the garbage that is tossed around on why Ebay is struggling, and then you have this topic, carried out over a period of time, which hits the nail SQUARELY on the head.  To bad Ebay is to busy finding ways to replace these sellers with Chinese junk peddlers to read this.

Re: As a seller, Ebay is going downhill

You are absolutely correct. I was wondering if it was just my account having low sales. As you stated, i make more money selling out of my storage and flea markets (less expenses) shipping etc... After reading all of these complaints about low sales, this will be my last year.

Re: As a seller, Ebay is going downhill

Im on all those other sites. I sell same stuff all over. While no place is perfect ,it is factually incorrect to day they have as many problems as ebay. Its not even remotely close. I personally have dealt with 14 issues on ebay in the last 2 weeks. I havent dealt with 14 issues on 4 other sites all year long combined. I have $750,000 in sales on those other sites. Not even $10,000 here. Not only do i offer the same products here but ebay has the luxury of getting my used and one off stuff all to itself.

Just no contest when it comes to suckage.

Re: As a seller, Ebay is going downhill

I maintain 60 plus items more or less.  Two years ago, I sold on average 7 - 10 items.  In the last 1 1/2 years, my average is 1 - 2 items per month.  The month of Feb. 2020 I sold one item and the month of March 2020 I have sold nothing.  I was always busy, selling or mailing items.  I actually am forgetting about it.  I haven't listed anything new for over 30 days.

I'm thinking of switching, to another company.  I know it will be a lot of work, but I'm thinking about just getting out of Ebay entirely.  It almost feels like with the "auto renewal" that my items aren't being relisted and if they are they are way, way, down on the bottom.  See you on the other side!

Hi @715ajh85us

just wanted to encourage you to start a new thread so your voice will be heard. The original post is from over a year ago and the mods often lock old threads when they find them. To encourage more discourse on this subject, a new thread would also guarantee your post will be seen by more people. Wishing you the best!

Re: As a seller, Ebay is going downhill

My buddy would say ebay is going downhill and picking up lots of speed because the last 2 months he has been breaking his own records for selling here. Jan. he had over $60,000 in sales, not sure about feb. numbers but he said in a short text last week to me that he had his best feb. ever and hope mar. is just as nice and if it is he will break his record for a whole years worth in just the first 3 months. .

Re: As a seller, Ebay is going downhill

I agree I sold a mobile phone on ebay for £97 sent it recorded delivery and insured which cost me £9 not £3 as advised by ebay! The buyer signed for the phone and the same day raised an item not received dispute! Ebay sent me an e-mail advising me of said dispute and that I had 48 hours to respond to the e-mail and resolve the matter. Less than 3 hours after receiving the dispute e-mail the scamming buyer had his money refunded by ebay! Now I'm a member of the global shipping program so I had a tracking number and ebay confirmed the delivery of the phone. Despite this irrefutable evidence they refused to reverse their decision re the refund when I disputed it. It appears to me they are unwilling to admit to their mistakes and it's your money they are giving away!!

I'm shopping at Amazon from now on and will share my bad experience on ebay with friends & colleagues and in social media, ebay can no longer be trusted.

A lot of people are learning the hard way. All I hear is horror stories from sellers getting scammed and calling it quits with eBay. I'm just wondering how long they think they can operate like this. they've been selling off assets and repurchasing their stock to keep the stock price propped up but that won't last forever.
