Are small sellers going to survive these changes?

I'm a "small" seller (yearly sales in lower 5 figures).

I've spent about 20 minutes reading the Summer Update.

I don't see ANYTHING that will have any sort of effect on how I operate, I don't see ANYTHING that gives me concerns.

I DO see a few relatively minor things which I feel will be good for the site overall.

Most important to me......NO fee increases and NOTHING I need to do to be in full compliance.

Maybe I'm missing something?

Thanks for that, I feel a little better.  I do need to add, I sell mostly clothing and can not offer free returns. So I will lose my TR+ status : (

TRS+ status is extremely overated, buyers really don't care and the reward is miniscule.

While I have mostly always been TRS I have never had a single listing that qualified for TRS+ because I haven't been set up for next day shipping since the days when I was doing 25+ orders per day and had to ship fast just to avoid getting overwhelmed.

I certainly understand that (new) clothing sellers have a difficult time with free returns, used clothing on the other hand should provide such huge margins that free returns can be a possibility for some.

The clearing 50 center used clothing crowd has pretty much self inflicted their own demise.....

I love how they show in the chart "No Returns(Final Sale)".

Like that's ever going to be true. But a simple checkbox could change that if the buyer wishes to accept it from a seller. There are many I buy from that I trust and would check that I accept the sellers terms and conditions. And many repeat buyers would would probably do the same for me because they know I would make it right.

I don't need a nanny.

They couldn't find a clue even if you gave them clues on how to find one.

Wow the day that No Returns actually means. NO RETURNS. Sorry but eBay will never allow it.

You want to stay as competitive as possible here to survive. The fast and free, 30 days return with free ship back is where you should be with your listings. These are going to be standard practice for sure as time moves on. You do not want to be in the position of creating friction of any sort to your buyers, if you offer friction, they will go somewhere else to buy with less friction. People complain about not being able to do free ship back fast and free. This matter is remedied by adding the costs of the free ship to  and back either to the item purchase price, and by adjusting prices by a small percentage acros your items to plan for loss. Most people keep what they buy.

I sell clothing, I get returns now for ridiculous reasons. Item not the color they expected, or they ordered the wrong size. I can't afford to offer free returns, not now or ever. If I raise my prices I lose again to a larger seller with lower pricing.

I will take a wait and see approach as I have with all ebay's changes through the years.   Very few of them have had much of an effect on what I've been doing.   Returns have never been a major problem for me, and I use 3 day handling so on time delivery is not a problem.

Buyers seem to find my listings - even with the screwy book categories.   I'm not going to sit and worry about the changes until I see signs that they may be having an adverse effect.

Ebay has slowly but surely been driving small sellers out for many years. And by small sellers I'm referring to those who are merely clearing home items out and not running a business. They're never going to come out and say that as a goal but it's been pretty obvious over the years with the constant updates and UA manipulations.

"slowly" .....at this rate they should all be gone in about 387 years!

It's certainly not obvious to me, a pulse and a credit card and you can be selling tommorow, eBay will even hand you a bunch of free listings. While I certainly agree that eBay has become much more complicated over the years so has selling online everywhere.

If there is anyone who can afford very liberal return policies it's people who are simply clearing out stuff they having lying around at home. Their investment in the goods is essentially ZERO.

And more and more their return on the goods is zero too.

It's sad when a seller with absolutely nothing invested in the item for sale can't even make a decent return on their time.

If my aquisition cost is zero and there isn't a profit to be made, what hope do people who have to source their merchandise have?

Yes, that item cost me nothing, but I paid the $12 to ship it, the $12 to get it back and bought the envelope / box and all packing materials.....

I just spent $24 plus my time to have a zero balance in PayPal. Oh, wait, it will be a negative balance because they keep part of the money.

I can be out $24 on an item that sells for $10. Smart business move there.

As a buyer, so many categories have just totally dried up. Never anything worth buying, but thousands and thousands of listings.....
