There is a new “feature” on my selling page (app) that reads “Opportunities” then under it shows a thumbnail of one of my listings along with “Your price is 43% higher than similar items.” I did a search and not only is mine not higher, it is closer to 20% lower.
A couple things: Is ebay not showing me all the listings that it is using to determine the percentage? If yes, why? Or is ebay just making up numbers to get us to lower our prices? The search results and eBay’s “opportunity” number don’t even come close to matching. Last week it was another thumbnail of a listing that had it higher but when I did a search was also not higher. If this data is easily proven false, I am now wondering about the validity of their other data.
What am I missing? What’s the point of that new “feature” if it’s giving grossly wrong data and how is lowering a price (losing money) an opportunity? (That last question is rhetorical LOL.)

I am just guessing about this....
When you search the title of your item it is likely you will have a list of "other" items or items close in words or details.
So....ebay's assessment of price for "similar" items is not accurate.
If your item is properly priced then you don't have to worry about any of this.

Those ebay suggested prices tend to be wildly inaccurate for anything that isn't a very easy to search item that sells constantly.

I just ignore those little messages.
My price might be a little higher then others, but I'm not going to just give it away.
As far as seeing all the items during a search, they show you what they want you to see.

I've found that unless you're dealing with well-documented product data (UPCs, model numbers, etc.) those price comparisons are extremely subjective.
As an example, it's possible your Barbies are being compared to ALL Barbies from the 90's or some other irrational criteria.

“Then you don’t have to worry about any of this.” Another thing to ignore, I love it. Thank you!
