Just checking.
Had my first decent sale in months today, and am shipping to Texas. eBay is charging me $16+ for an "international fee" even though I don't ship internationally, and this painting isn't going to a foreign country.
C.S. and a C.S. "Supervisor" insist it's a valid charge because the guy's registerd address is in Mexico, even though the shipping address is TX.

1.65% foreign transaction fee because the buyer is registered in Mexico.

If there is an incremental cost for a card registered in Mexico is $16 more than if they'd used an American card, that should be on the buyer or eBay themselves, not the seller. Do you suppose the seller is being charged the same fee?

If your eBay registered address is in an eBay global country, eBay charges an International fee if either:
- The delivery address for the item (entered by the buyer during checkout) is outside your registered address country, or
- The buyer's registered address is outside your registered address country (regardless of the delivery address for the item)
The International fee is calculated on the total amount of the sale and is automatically deducted from your sales proceeds. The total amount of the sale is the item price, any handling charges, the shipping service the buyer selects, sales tax (or equivalent local consumer tax), and any other applicable fees.

Thanks. That is what they are saying, but I disagree that an international fee should be chargeable on a domestic shipment.
Why should the seller be responsible for that, too?...and why is that calculated on the shipping cost as well as everything else?

Yes. I only ship in the US
I had an international buyer purchase from me I paid 1.65% international fee because the buyer was based in another country but shipped the item as a gift to someone in Philadelphia.
International fee
When you offer eBay International Shipping for your eligible listings, you won't be charged an international fee when your item sells.
Otherwise, if your registered address is in the US, we charge an international fee if either:
- The delivery address for the item (entered by the buyer during checkout) is outside the US, or
- The buyer's registered address is outside the US (regardless of the delivery address for the item)
This fee is calculated as 1.65% of the total amount of the sale and is automatically deducted from your sales.
If your registered address is not in the US, please refer to the fee page for your country or region of residence for your international fee information.

Seems like just one more way eBay has found to screw over the sellers.

Hey @stevemartin60 - Hope you are well - Sounds like a decent sale given the international fee is 1.65% I believe? Nice - I would guess its going to a reshipper in TX? Best of luck with your biz

I don't like this charge either. It's always been an industry policy. When it was paypal payments, they too charged the fee. Frankly, I think that the fee should be on the buyers but it's not going to happen. Think of it as a $16.00 tax deduction because it's a fee. Help recover this fee buy raising the prices of your next few listings. You decide how much and how many listings.
On the other hand if it makes you feel better, go buy something international and use your U.S. based credit card. You will be happy as a buyer that you won't be paying that fee.

When Paypal was processing payments for eBay sellers they had a similar fee for buyers who resided or were paying from another country. Paypal also charged the buyer an additional 2.5% fee.

No problem.
You'll still continue to sell here.

@stevemartin60 Well, perhaps it shouldn't be charged, but it IS, and it is per ebay's long standing policy (and PayPal's before that).
The good news is, if this were actually going to Mexico AND if you are in the new ebay International Shipping program, there would be no international fee. (at least, as I understand it). I'm not sure that the new program eliminates the fee if the item is only being shipped to somewhere in the US though.
