This summer will be a difficult one for making sales? Just not here - everywhere? Online has been quiet with the occasional good day (thanks to FBM). I tried having a yard sale on Sat. NO ONE showed up!! I had 1 friend drive by & saw me so he stopped. Spent $15. A guy in the same building as me spent $5.00. Not another soul- not even to look! How is that possible? It was a beautiful day, too. I got up at 5:30. Outside & set up by 7:40. I won't do that again. Lesson learned! lol I live on a busy corner, too. Traffic lined up at the lights. No one pulls in? Good luck to all. 🙂

For me, the summer slow down has always been real...I expect it will be this Summer as well. I'm hoping to counter it somewhat by listing more than I usually do in the Summer (as with many sellers, this is my prime sourcing season, so listing sometimes gets shorted), and by being more aggressive with sales and marketing efforts, including some social media efforts to drive traffic to ebay.

Ebay is still the best site to sell your goods. Nowhere else gives you the views like Ebay

I'm sorry but I have to disagree on the views aspect. I get MANY more views on Marketplace than on eBay. Sometimes, 50x as many. Also, for almost a week, I've had a listing for an accessory of a poplar vintage toy. ZERO views so far. I had 1 listing on here & Marketplace where it had 2 views on eBay & 350 on Mktp.

Yes, but did it SELL? Views are meaningless. You can have 1000 people look at an item, but if not a single one of them buys it, then you might as well not have had any views at all.

I've never had a successful yard sale in my life, and my current place isn't likely to do well with traffic stopping here in a little out of the way place with no parking, so that's definitely not something I would even consider trying. I'm sorry to hear it went so poorly! Have you ever had a successful yard sale at that location? I love yard sales but honestly I won't go to them anymore if there's no parking. As for eBay sales this summer, my fingers are crossed, but you may be correct....

Yes it did. 🙂

The big question, what were your sales on FBM vs Ebay? Views mean nothing unless a sale happens no matter what platform you are on.

Our HOA has 2 pre-planned garage sales per year in March & October. We made over $300 in March and made over $400 last October. We put time away on the Bay for a day and got rid of a lot of items equal to and more than the final net price we would have received on the Bay. I guess it really depends on timing etc. Good Luck out There.

@traditonalproducts With yard sales, location matters ( as does whatever advertising you do), but I'd guess for most people, being part of a community wide yard sale (like your HOA ) is a real benefit....definitely draws more foot traffic...and if you care to, it's usually a good place to "add value" by selling bottled water, soda, snacks, baked goods, etc....or fresh veggies from a garden, etc.

eBay - April : 4 sales (1 was refunded & buyer received the item after. Money not returned to me). May : 4 sales. Last week on FBM - 5 sales which lead to 7 as 2 buyers bought items I did not have listed.

For those expecting a slow summer, do you have plans to try to increase sales on ebay?

always a slow down in summer, especially the beginning of summer. I've had bad yard sales too, lots of work for nothing. If I ever do have another will follow weather forecasts, if there saying a cloudy Sat. I might try again. :} I get alot of ebay clean up work done during the summer, work on my death pile. As someone else mentioned, its prime time for sourcing items.

Summers have been slow for decades for me. But this year in particular people seem to be hanging on to their money a little tighter. I think there’s concern over what the economy may or may not do.
