Ok so just another bogus return for the year. I sold a wireless keyboard that was known good. The buyer had the message "please do not include an invoice" on the order. I figured gift maybe. I sent it to the address provided on order.
A return request for "broken/defective" comes in. I know the item is fine so I try to communicate with the buyer about troubleshooting steps to get the item working. All I get in return is "I tried, it isn't working, send return label!" After a couple more messages I get them to give more details and claim its dirty and doesn't work. So whatever, we all know I have no choice but to accept the return. The bots would auto approve it in a flash if I didn't.
Well, I get the item back and it has a return ID slip from another popular site in the package. So they sold it there and had me ship it to their customer. The item was still sealed in the wrapping I sent it in so no way was even tried. Their buyer just returned for whatever reason but certainly wasn't because it was defective. So my buyer just lied to force a return!
So now I am out the shipping costs both ways and I have relisted the item. When it sells I will just cover my losses and break even I suppose.
I reported the buyer on eBay and blocked them, I also reported them on the site they sold it on. I'm sure nothing will happen of it though.

Buyers lying to avoid return shipping has been an issue on eBay since 2008.

Got the exact same type purchase (don't send invoice etc.) and then opened a 'return' for reason of 'bought by mistake' (2nd time this 'buyer' bought this way (drop shipping my items))
So, the buyer Opened a return. Return was never shipped. Case was closed in my favor. Blocked buyer.

I don’t have the statistical data but I have spoken to upper level eBay reps via their concierge regarding the proliferation of false NAD’s and the consensus is that the increase is rather significant.
In my category one only needs to look at the rapid, meteoric increase in the metrics to see that buyers are far more willing to file false claims than anytime before.
I can tell you that I’m currently on the brink of being assessed a 6% fee when in previous years I was nearly 50% below the average. Not one NAD I have received in well over a year has been valid, not one.
