Angry over Good Till Canceled Listings

I am furious with this  change to the fixed listing format.  For the majority of my listings I only ever had one of an item.  I resent eBay automatically relisting items I no longer have and that I'm paying for them as it comes out of my monthly limit.  I also noticed today that when they relist it automatically reverts back to the original listing.  Meaning if I revised the listing during the cycle it doesn't show my revised version.  I had a listing with multiple items. On March 23rd I revised that listing and added a new item at a different price.  On March 28th I sold two of them and only had the higher priced one left.  So I revised the listing again as I only had one left.  When eBay automatically relisted my listing it reverted back to the original listing for whatever reason and the quantity was wrong.  I hate having to babysit my listings now and delete them as they sell. NOW I  know for sure the money grab is on.

I realize there have been numerous posts and responses to this subject, but I feel I must voice my opinion as well.

I strongly dislike this policy.  I agree with all the reasons everyone else has stated, so I'm not going to go on about it, but I feel better knowing I am voicing my opinion.

STOP this eBay!!  It is not helpful or wanted!

You'd think with all the extra money they're culling from this money-grabbing farce they would use some of it to fix their infrastructure. When I try to disable 'Out of Stock'  and hit 'apply' I get this gem.

Now that is interesting, and I don't feel so singled out.  It seems every time I go to manually end one of these GTC listings I've been seeing that same gem so it's taking multiple attempts to delete them.

Re: Angry over Good Till Canceled Listings

Trinton or Tyler , the ONLY way that you can help this seller and just about every seller is to REVOKE GOOD TILL CANCEL... OR CANCEL GTC if the Einsteins at ebay headquarters do not understand REVOKE. This is very , very time consuming even though I have figured out to list in bulk late in the evening, put up calenders in all of the rooms that I frequent at home reminding me to end items. This is awful. The only sales that I have had with the GTC ads is when I end them and restart them a few days later. I did have a customer email and ask me what happened to an item , I explain the IDIOTIC POLICY THAT EBAY HAS AND WHY I ENDED THE AD . I then told the buyer that I would restart the ad at a certain time in the evening. The guy bought the item about 5 minutes after it started. GTC MUST GO. ITS A MONEY GRAB. IF IT WERE NOT A MONEY GRAB, YOU GUYS WOULD NOT SCREW SELLERS AND CHARGE THEM FEES EVERYTIME IT RELISTS.

I have 50 items ending this month on my anniversary. When I listed them , I didn't realize the end date. Anyway, I am going to end them early on the morning of my anniversary. People should have to plan a listing based if the ending time is a holiday or an anniversary. No freaking way will I allow those 50 to restart ( or Forty something assuming I do make a few sales. ) …

I would write to eBay and put them on notice that this is unacceptable.  I would also consider contacting your State Attorney General's Office, Consumer Protection Division, to file a further complaint if this continues.

Maybe this is built into the money grab algorithm?  Random errors result in more fees.  open_mouth

You do realize that Ebay is under no obligation to seek or receive member approval for a change they want to make to the site!?!?!?  This isn't a co-op.  Ebay is a corporation that can set its own rules.  Members can choose to use the site and the rules that Ebay sets forth or not.

What is it that you think is illegal about GTC listings?  If there is some legal issue here on Ebay, how has Amazon survived for so long as it is the ONLY type of listing they have?

I take issue with some of Ebay's rules.  I most certainly do not like them all.  But I'm curious as to why you would advise someone as you did above.  What exactly do you think gets accomplished by such an action?

The OP is stating specific concerns regarding their GTC listings, which are also being reported by others here.  eBay can create policies and processes, but they still need to comply with Consumer Protection laws.  If a Consumer feels that a business practice is confusing or deceptive and is negatively impacting them financially, then they have a concern they can raise.

To be "deceptive" means something is being hidden from the consumer.  There is nothing regarding GTC listings that is being hidden from members.  Some may not understand them and some may not like them, but that doesn't equal "deceptive".  I understand the upset over this change and I feel many are justified in how they feel.  But just because one doesn't like the rule change does not mean it breaks any Consumer Protection law.

Which is easily evidenced by Amazon's entire site is 100% GTC listings.  I think it is reasonable to think that if GTC broke some kind of Consumer Protection Law, Amazon would have been dinged long ago.  And Ebay for that matter since GTC isn't a new thing on Ebay.

Re: Angry over Good Till Canceled Listings

You're furious...I'm MORE FURIOUS.  I'm pulling my hair out.  I call into eBay every day.  My sales have plummeted.  One of the first things that I ask the reps, is, "Is it my inventory, or is it eBay's inventory?"  Naturally, they reply that it is mine...but eBay now has complete control.  That's how it is in Communist countries.  You own it, but the government controls it.  I am NOT happy.  In chatting with the reps, who are always kind and helpful, I discovered that when eBay was deciding whether to go forward with GTC terms, such as LEVEL PLAYING FIELD and FAIR were used. These are Marxist terms.

My gut feeling was that my sales are down 50%.  One agent went through the math and he determined that I was close.  I'm down 48% by his calculations - and that is before listing fees, commissions and cost of goods.  My time spent is out the window.  I am NOT happy.

I read up on the new CEO and that particular article inferred that he wants to make eBay more like Amazon...

About three months ago, I started using the "note" option, not visible to buyers.  I thought, well I'll try it out...I labeled my listings, many of which I left run the course of GTC.  I had the agent go back and review my sold items.  NOT ONE - repeat - NOT ONE sold as GTC.  My other listings, I labeled the date that I relisted them - those are the items that sold and shortly after being listed.  I used to get 50% of my sales from them "ending soon."   I don't know how much longer I can hang out on eBay.  I can't live on $30 a day GROSS. My net has to be around $15 a day.  This is not acceptable to me.

Several of the agents indicated that some were calling in saying that they like GTC.  Here's the rub - they always had that option - they have taken away our options...

I carry approximately 3000 listings.  I would average it out to approximately 350 new, or top posted listings each day.  At the same time, 350 items would be ending...so, I used to get maximum exposure.  Not having my listings end, my exposure has been cut in 1/2 - hence, my sales are down 50% (approximately)

This is NOT acceptable to me.

Just under the search button on the right hand side of your screen is a button that says "COMMENTS".  I was told that if you fill out that form, it goes right to the president's desk for review.  I've filled out several and intend to  fill out more, and I will continue to call in to voice my grievance.  I hope that the readers on this site, will do the same.

I would like to suggest that if and when you call in, that you call in with ammunition...give them the facts and the numbers...Let's join together to voice our opinions to get this policy reversed.

Thank you for reading.

@lightlily_arts

Are you using Seller Hub? There's a field there on your Active listings that says "all states" use the drop down to show out of stock and search - then you can see which are active but sold out.

Except AMZ doesn't charge a fee for the listing every 30 days.

This is true, but they make that up in other fees.  I do not find them cheaper to list on in regards to fees.  Some may, but I think there are many that do not.  Speaking for myself only, I pay higher fees on Amazon.

Re: Angry over Good Till Canceled Listings

@lightlily_arts   In seller hub just click on the end date to sort by date, at least that should work.    There are also new start end date columns that will show you the exact start and end times of your listings.  To add those columns go customize.

You can see screen shots and the steps to add the columns to seller hub on post 3 of this link:
