An outdated fee

Let me start off by saying I loved Ebay.

But! Read this story! You'll laugh

If you send someone your phone number your get charged a 16$ fee for the 1st offence and 9.50$ for the 2nd time.

This was for an item I sold on here for $19.45. They really think people would pay 25$ for that.

Instead of suspending the account or some less greedy form of punishment. The crazy part about it, I get a message that talks about dont sell off site....btw were also working on a service that'll allow for offsite selling! so I'm the wrong one atm? But its right when they're profiting from it 🤣🤣I have never seen a Rip-off like that. A 1-5$ fee seems reasonable. But literally going over the sale value just makes the reviewer of the case look so salty it's insane lol.

**Moral** of the story dont use Ebay like offer up until they create their own version then its okay😂 but for now takes these insane fees

An outdated fee

You are the first person to come to the Board and mention a fee like that, as far as I know.  Previously, you got a warning first, then if it happened again, there was a temporary suspension of varying degrees, a few days, a week, a month, depending, up to and including permanent suspension.

So this is news.

If you got a warning or suspension or had engaged in this before, and then ended the item, you could be charged FVFs on the item, just as if it had sold.

I thought eBay charged sellers suspected of off-eBay transactions the same fee as if it had been a Buy It Now?

Was that a multi-quantity listing?

So you didn't understand that making a deal on Ebay to sell off Ebay was wrong?

@pokemasterny

I'm sorry, but you have misunderstood these fees.  You were charged 10% of the amount that eBay calculated you had sold the item for, off-eBay, each time. Here's the policy:

https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/selling-fees?id=4364#section2

Final value fees

We charge a final value fee when your item or relisted item sells, or if we determine that you intended to complete a sale outside of eBay.

Final value fees are calculated as a percentage of the total amount the buyer pays, including shipping and handling. Sales tax isn't included.

If you offer or reference your contact information or ask a buyer for their contact information in the context of buying or selling outside of eBay, we charge you a final value fee based on the total amount of the sale even if your item doesn't sell. In this situation, the total amount of the sale is determined as follows:

  • Auction-style listing format: The total amount of the sale is the auction start price, the Buy It Now price (if applicable), the reserve price (if applicable), or the price identified between the buyer and seller, whichever is highest.
  • Fixed price listing format: The total amount of the sale is the fixed price or the price identified between the buyer and seller, whichever is higher.

When you use a zero insertion fee listing and pay no insertion fee, you still have to pay the final value fee.

@castlemagicmemories  this is not the first time sellers have reported this. I have seen reports like this several times. eBay started this months ago (possibly more than a year).

Hi, you mention you received some kind of notification from ebay that they are working on a service to allow off site selling?

From the OP: "...I get a message that talks about dont sell off site....btw were also working on a service that'll allow for offsite selling! so I'm the wrong one atm? But its right when they're profiting from it."

Any way you can send a screenshot of that ebay message? First I heard they are looking into allowing off site sales? Unless I am reading your post incorrectly.

Thank you, yes, you're right.  I know that, and I posted that if you end the listing, you can get charged an FVF as if the item sold.  I went by the OP, which made it sound like a fee because of the contact, (If you send someone your phone number your get charged a 16$ fee for the 1st offence and 9.50$ for the 2nd time), and not the Chart which stated FVF on it.  Had the OP stated FVF as the Chart did, I would have been fine with no egg on my face now!Smiley EmbarassedSmiley Sad

Sorry, @lacemaker3 and thank you for your correction.

OP, are you sure the message did not mention the Ebay legal way to include your phone number in your listings?  You can set that up with them.

Okay misread the "beta" program for phone numbers. Would make sense to just add a local buying and selling option. But w.e

I have an update!. Someone was butthurt. The initial fee is 10% for offsite selling. Btw If the person said 1000$ as a joke and you jokingly said okay. Your **bleep**ed. They read every message and take stuff wayy out of context (theres a butthurt reviewer there) but that's how they come up with the price w.e you guys agreed on. Weather it was a joke or not.

They charged me 25.50$ for a 19.45$ which was insane. So I called 4 days in a row and told them

- its was 1 transaction (only 1 was in store) why am I being fined 2 times. It didn't make sense.

-19.45$ vs 25.50$ in fines doesn't make sense. I would be giving you guys more money then the sale lol

They made a "mistake" on their end. I call **bleep**. First 2 people at their trust &safety division gave me a hard time. They were saying " well you broke the rules and that's what I have to pay . THATS IT. Mind you if they were in front me. they wouldn't have said it in a **bleep** way. But I digress.

Imagine all the people who just give up and say eh I'll just pay. Not a good way to make money. Overcharging people like that.

Ebay get your **bleep** together or I will be "ringing" your phone all day , "thank you for ringing us" lol
