I remember on OP came to the boards caught up in a scheme like this. I remember because she was pregnant. She was going crazy. She was asked to list on HER account High-end items and the Scammer said they'd sent the items Out. She was to keep a small percentage of the sale and forward the majority of the money back to them. She could NEVER pay eBay back so her account was closed.
This scam is similar. eBay is NOT included IN THIS SCAM but very well could be put in the link. Scammers buy high-end items on eBay, pays for the items with a stolen account/OR credit card. They have it shipped to some one who has answered an ad to reship items to family's or Foreigners PROMISING A HIGH WAGE. Unsuspected Reshipper goes to jail!!!
OR they have another eBay account and they list the items. They Send the label to Unsuspected Reshipper. Reshipper sends it out. ( notice that they ask the reshipper to make sure the items work? ) The Scammer then gets the money on the item sent and gets lost in the Rear View Mirror and Dust Flying. Owner of Stolen credit card gets reimbursed by Pay Pal or Credit Corp. Reshipper goes to jail or has a lot of explaining to do.

The pregnant woman was not a scammer.
She did Not solicit donations.
A few of us on Seller Central (actually we went to an independant website forum to continue)
we Offered to by a few token gifts so her first pregnancy wasn't over-shadowed by the scam she fell for.
A minor male. (15 or 16 year old boy)
convinced her to sell popular electronic items for him (he acted like an adult supplier)
He took pictures of the items, sent those to her
She listed the item.. got paid.. sent him his money (sale price minus her "cut")
and.. He Shipped the items.
But that's how it starts.
Then
after a dozen or so successful sales....
He lists a bunch of items...... she collects the buyer's money.. sends him a Lot of money for his portion
And he doesn't ship. He 'takes the money and runs' .. so to speak.
The Item Not Recieved chargebacks devastate her eBay account.
She lost thousands.
Law enforcement got involved.
That's when they found he was a minor, so no civil restitution could be initiated.
btw, she was a college graduate.. she was an attorney.
These scammers can be Very good.. Very convincing.
fwiw,
Lynn

No one goes to jail. The worst that happens is that the unsuspecting reshipper loses their own money in paying for reshipping, thinking that they're going to be reimbursed by what turn out to be bogus checks from the scammers.

They're not. The first link goes to a TV station's story on the scam; the second link goes to a USPS Postal Inspection Service bulletin.

I remember that thread! That was some time ago; the pregnant girl had medical issues and was under a lot of stress from this situation. She was the victim of a scam.

There was fear she would lose her baby. She had to deal with those who bought but did not receive the item, and her "employer" disappeared.

An informed Seller is a good Seller. I put this out there so that Any "NEW" Seller could read how it works so that they will at least know such scams exist.
I do sometimes feel sorry for the somewhat innocent Sellers get taken their first few sales.
This is nothing...I have seen sites That are WAY deeper than this! If someone is a Scammer he or she will try to scam. I was raised the OLD way My word is My honor, worth more than a signature.
I am always happy to read about new scams.( I feel really sad for the people that get taken, however.) How can I protect Myself if I don't know how they work? Sugar

No worries. There is a LOT to read here!!!

Hi, Sugar:
Yes, the posters really were all shook up and concerned. Wow, maybe I missed that about donations, but it is very possible. People might have felt so sorry for her they sent her some money. It seems to be ringing a bell in my memory even as I speak.
Anyone remember how long ago that was? It seems like quite some time ago!
