Amazon is adding a 5% fuel and inflation surcharge

Those who bemoan eBay seller fees won’t find a new home at Amazon.

Biden is kicking Big Oil in its fat rump to stop gouging the public, and gas at the pump is going down, but it's always been "rise like a rocket and fall like a feather" - inflation was so much worse back in the day but big oil was still diddling prices.   😠  Hopefully the price will keep dropping.

The small drop in price is most likely because they opened up the reserves again. Which maybe caused a slight dip in the oil market. My guess is most likely we'll start seeing an increase sometime next week or later in the month. And we haven't even gotten into the increases that usually happen once they start doing the summer blends.

Also not sure how the E15/E85 push will be that beneficial with prices. Particularly if crops this year are probably not going to be as good or more expensive because of fertilizer costs and whatnot. But perhaps corn wouldn't be hit as hard in that area.

Summer prices - yeah, I'm thinking that, too.  Biden did open up reserves and cut off oil from Russia (8% production) but wants to boost production here and increase supply. A lot of companies are working on satisfying their investors rather than boosting output, though, so it's been more like drip feed, and there's where the rump kicking might come in - I know they took a hit in the wallet during the pandemic and the drop in oil earlier, but they've been posting big profits and don't mind bragging about it.  But there's also manpower and supply chain problems which are a problem - it's pretty complicated.

The  drop in  gas prices was  due to the temporary elimination of the federal and some  states taxes on gasoline. Some states like Cali said no to eliminating the state taxes (they like the revenue). Don't think the Prez temporary crude oil reserves program starts unit May..  Out of US standard 42 gallon  barrel of crude  19-20 gallons of gasoline and 11-12 gallons of low sulfur diesel fuel is produced - the rest is heating fuel, lubricants- oils greases, any  stuff that  goes into synthetic material like  yoga pants , polyester leisure suits (from  days gone by like the  late 60s) and the spandex in ladies jeans

My first car loan in 1980 was at 21% interest, from the bank.

That’s only for FBA.  You don’t make a lot of money doing that anyway.  Or if you think you do your giving more to amazon then your bank.

You are so right. Our house loan purchased in 1979 was 11 1/2%. They went to 17% then stopped home loans altogether. The house had no AC. We didn’t have to pay for cable, internet, very high doctor & dental bills,  & cell phones. Also the old Victorian house was 59k.

The difference is I was getting 17% for a 1 year CD. We have become unhooked from banks.

Yes, this gas thing is going to be a mess.
But, as other posters have said. We went through this 40 years ago.

So we had 40 (FORTY) years to distance ourselves from fossil fuels. I remember all kinds of ideas. Cars running on methane was one. Always fascinating.

Problem is our entire system is set up with gas stations, delivery, manufacturing of cars. All of those companies are making lots of money. We are driving our big cars & paying.

I think we missed our chance. The days of a garage mechanic coming up with a solution or Jack legging something are over. Seems like most people today only know how to create an App.

My feeling is it’s going to get way worse. Check out the bonuses the CEOs of oil businesses are making. The average person will be in much worse shape. But the US economy has been shaky for years.

We do really well with FBA.  Exceptionally so.....no idea why so many misconceptions with FBA.  There are many tiers/programs, etc.  This is our 12th year with FBA and grateful for it.

The problems we are experiencing now started before Putin.  Any one who buys groceries and gas knows this.

The last inflation numbers came in the highest since 1981.  That's 41 years.  How old does one need to be to not consider that as skyrocketing inflation, dear?

The USA's number one export IS inflation.  It's no surprise that the rest of the world suffers from our poor policies.

You are right. We did this before with inflation.

We can handle it again.

But there are differences.
Income equality for one.

Its going to hurt.

But we did not learn the lesson, we had 40 years to unhook ourselves from big oil.
Check out what CEOs from the oil companies are making.

We keep driving our big cars & handing our future over to all kinds of turmoil.

I don’t think things will be better for a long time.(dropping like a feather).

But the US economy has been shaky for years.

We have had high gas prices for at least 6 weeks now, correct?

I see this announcement from Amazon as just another opportunity for free advertising / marketing.

Just watched the local news, and they state this increase does not go into effect for another two weeks.

Think about it!

Are gas prices still high? Last I glanced at a gas station sign around here, the price per gallon had dropped almost a dollar from what it had been previously.

Yeah. Didn't mention taxes since it isn't with all states. But it has also played a part. But my understanding on how futures work is the price you see now is how it will be in the future. So price you would see with the reserves in May is the price you see in the futures now. Which should mean the prices will go back to what they were probably next month. Hopefully I'm being clear. I also admit I might be misunderstanding how it works.

Was part of why Biden killing the pipeline when he started caused prices to go up. Yeah, the pipeline wasn't finished. But the oil that would get added to the pool from the pipeline had the price for the future baked in. So when he cancelled it, prices went up since it potentially less oil in the future even though that oil was going to be exported I think.

And believe me. I understand how California likes the revenue. The legislature basically sees us as walking piggy banks that allow us to keep some of our money. My favorite back when gas going above $2 was freaking people out nearly 20 years ago was they were working on two bills. One would cause the state gas tax rate to go up with gas went below $2. So people here wouldn't actually see any savings. And the other would cause the state fuel tax rate to go up with the Fed for whatever reason decided to lower their fuel tax. Don't think they passed and possibly never went for a vote. But the fact that someone or a handful of people even thought it makes me want to bring back the stocks.

$3.75 here in MS, down from $3.99.  Three years ago it was $1.49 - $1.59
