Always something.

A buyer wanted local pickup for one of my buy it now items.  I told him I would do local pickup if he paid in cash only.  I changed the listing from pay now and changed it to local pick up.  The guy goes ahead and pays with paypal anyway stating it is the rule of ebay that I must accept paypal.  He said I could inflate shipping charge to pad my profit. (btw the item is a BROKEN for parts $10 router)

Next email has my personal info pulled from what looks like some site with my address, age and last name saying he is going to call the police, ebay and paypal.

As I typing this he said he filed a claim with my local PD.  All .  Time to call ebay.  Glad I live in a gated community.  CRAZIES

Re: Always something.

Dear Buyer,
We are not setup as a retail outlet and thus can not entertain offers for picking up items that are destined for shipment, these items can still be purchased and will ship as stated.
Thank you,
Seller

Dear Buyer,
Due to ebay and paypal return policies all items for sale are shipped as stated and we will not consider alternate shipping arrangements.
Thank you.

Oh and one more thing...

If someone purchases Local Pickup from me (especially after they ask for it) I will *NOT* issue a refund and they can call the FBI and Kim Jong-Un for all I care.

Re: Always something.

Very strange!  Buyer wants local pick up, then tells you to pad the shipping???

Call the police for what?  Selling on Ebay???Smiley Very Happy

You do NOT have to take Paypal on a local pick up item.

I'm wondering if your gated community caused him to lose his cool. Maybe he sees that as something that will keep him out, therefore you are a scammer!  (That word gets a LOT of use on the Boards!)  Sorry you ran into this!  Possibly you could cancel with problem with buyer's address so you don't get a defect?  I'm sure others will weigh in on that.  Just a thought.

Re: Always something.

At this point, I would be reluctant to poke him any more; but it is tempting to ask him just why he feels he needs to call the police, ebay, etc.

Best to not poke the sleeping bear, I suppose.

Re: Always something.

I was going to ask him why he would call the police too but avoiding contacting him.  ebay trust and safety said he broke a bunch of rules and will flag his account and I shouldn't worry.  He opened a pp case saying not received and I gave him a full refund.

A neighbor in my community who is a single mother said she only uses a PO box for her ebay contact infomation.  I now see it would be good for guys like this.

All in all I knew better and we all know better.  We shouldn't adjust our terms for someone who asks.  It's always the guy who asks for one thing and demands another.

Re: Always something.

So he did not actually pick up the router, you still have it, and he has been refunded. Is that where things stand now? Does he have a dispute open for anything at the moment?

If your listing did not specify any Shipping method at all, so it was Local Pickup Only, you can accept PayPal, and special verbage is put in your listing to say that the buyer must contact you for details on pickup (no shipping). The buyer is also blocked from filing an Item Not Received dispute later, because no Shipping was offered in the first place.

If you did have a Shipping method listed and the buyer did a Local Pickup, you'd want to insist on cash, since he could conceivably file an INR after pickup, which you would lose.
