I seldom post here, but this just made my jaw drop open. I had no idea this is happening. Perhaps I spend too much time with the kids. Anyway, it totally makes sense why ebay is cracking down hard on sellers who sell questionable merchandise here.
Again...Wow...what a mess!

This type of action is becoming acceptable for many. It's getting to the point where you question if being a honest citizen has any merit, when others get more for nothing, and live off your taxes.

@caldreamer wrote:California law stipulates 6 months in jail and $1,000 fine for shoplifting but that hasn't stopped the thieves at all. Police will not respond if store calls them about shoplifting (don't want to be bothered and it is dangerous for store clerks to intervene).
Good news...California police recovered $18 MILLON merchandise stolen from railroad cars. Also they have recovered tons of stolen merchandise from storage units. I guess now they have to figure out which stores it belongs to.
Crime is rampant in California because we have new "catch & release" law (nobody has to pay bail money). Law was created because they believed "bail payment" law was unfair to poor people (rich people could easily pay bail and poor people had to rot in jail waiting for their trial).
Problem with "catch & release" it is the same people are immediately released and commit crimes over & over again. Honestly, I believe they should repeal this law (turned out to be a huge mistake).
Same here in western Washington state. Criminals, oops "victims of oppression" are free to steal what they want and nothing is done. Law enforcement's hands are tied by catch & release laws, prosecutors and judges. Sadly I have seen people walk out with carts full of stuff. At an intersection near me every night cars pull into an empty parking lot next to my local grocery/ merchandise store. All the drug addicts come to greet them. They are handed a list of what the dealers want them to steal from the store, they go in and take it, come back and exchange the merchandise for drugs.

"Should we stop em"? LOL
I'm not trying to pretend to be a hero, but I would have put a stop to at least one of those guys if I happened to be in that store, bum leg and all.
What's even more amazing than the theft is that none of the customers tried to stop them.

If you feel that is the right thing to do, and you would feel right doing it, go ahead.
The merchants themselves have explicit policies prohibiting their own employees from protecting the merchandise. At the very least, you'd be banned from the store for life if you jumped in. And given the number of emloyees who have been fired for trying to protect their employers' cash or merchandise, you might even get sued for your efforts, to boot.
Can you say, Topsy Turvy? 😖

No one has mentioned that rampant and unregulated gun ownership might have a little to do with this. Wanna get shot over a laptop or a head of lettuce?

Downright disgusting. In my mind if the store owner shot those thieves, I would find him/her not guilty. Scum like them deserve to rot in jail.

Yeah, Many cities in California have voted to legalize crime, the current state governor ( Gavin Pelosi) took on turning San Francisco into s *&^ hole, and now he's working on turning the rest of the state into the lawless, homeless paradise he created in SF, that's what the people have voted for.
Smash and grab has become a routine around here, nothing special at this point as can be seen in the twit.

I have no sympathy for Apple, could care less if they got robbed. They profit off of slave laborers in China, and more recently they blocked features on iphones in China so Chinese citizens can't communicate among one another following their communist leaders heavy handed restrictions over covid.
China's leaders treat their people like garbage. People are literally beaten, tortured, imprisoned, barricaded into their homes (They weld the doors and windows shut), some have starved to death as a result of Covid lockdowns, and more recently others burned to death after being unable to evacuate their homes.
If it were a business that wasn't run by sociopaths like Apple, then I would have some sympathy, but not in this case. I have sympathy for the people of China, not Apple.

Yup, the same here in LA county, people vote for crime friendly/defund the police reps,
elections have consequences and you get what you vote for.

"In Tennesse it's not so rampant... but we've named the treatment "Hug a Thug", anyway. "
Don't know where you live in TN but I live just north of Memphis and it's rampant here. I love the "Hug A Thug"! 😂 That's exactly what happens. They get caught and are right back on the street.

It looks like our pages on this forum have been re-designed again. Don't know if it's Khoros or ebay, but did you notice by where it says reply, it states "best answer?" Just noticing. Never saw it before.

Whenever I see things like this I usually ask myself, "Is there any money in it?" Could insurance pay more than the actual loss? Any write-offs? There's u$ually some kind of monetary benefits to the stores, etc. to be made. That's why the wheels turn very slowly here where thieves are concerned. Very s-l-o-w-l-y.........

Thought I saw that when I hit reply earlier.
