A guy bought a hand-struck silver token for $20 recently. My cost is $10 so after fees and stuff, I make a couple of bucks. Not really worth my time but I try to offer inexpensive items also. This is probably my lowest-priced item. The guy receives the coin and messages me frantic and all, ranting that I ripped him off and I was a scam artist. Seems he thought that since the listing showed the front and back of the coin, he felt he was buying TWO coins. Nowhere in my listing does it state two coins. I have sold many of these and never had this problem. So I asked him if he seriously believed any of the thousands of coins listed on eBay showing a photo of the front and back, that he would be receiving TWO coins?!?! And he expected TWO .999 silver tokens for $20? On top of that, he thought that I would attempt to rip buyers off for $10 when I sell coins mostly in the hundreds to thousands of dollars each. I just had to get this one off my chest - thus my rant. I often wonder how some people even make it through life, such as this one. Don't do drugs.

Realistically, the buyers you and I sell to can be of the older crowd.
So we need to be polite and businesslike with any problems that might arise.
I had a few buyers where they see a number of photos and think that is how many items they are receiving.
This goes with the territory of selling what we sell.

My business partner (who is a coin dealer and significantly more knowledgeable than I am), tells me there's a class of people who spend their time looking for loopholes they can exploit to try and get free stuff.
I sold an "Egypt 1 Pound 1980 Silver Coin" once about 7 years ago, and I got a nasty message from the buyer in bad grammar that said "how can you say it's 1 pound, it weighs a sixth of an ounce". He really believed he was getting a pound of silver for 19.99?
Anyway thanks for the note, another scam for me to keep my eyes open for.

"I regret you are unhappy with your purchase. Please return it for refund."
Rinse.
Repeat.
Then come here and rant.
Also allowed: raving, euphemistic vulgarity, screams of despair, ALL CAPS, memes, gifs, and extremely descriptive discussions of possible ancestry back to the amoeba generation.

Not really. Politie begins with the initial person contacting me. They did not. I run a business and treat it like one. I have already blocked them as I have many. These people are simply not worth my time. I don't sell $2 items. My life and experience are worth more. That's a choice I made and other sellers are free to do differently. Sorry, I don't need the lecture on being polite or businesslike. It amazes me how you chose to attack the seller, me, when none of this was my fault. BTW - I am nearly 70 yrs old with over 50 years in the business. I don't lower myself for a buck.

I always remember from Psych 101 the old BELL CURVE chart....where 100 was the median IQ. Not that I am a believer per se in an IQ score, but it showed at least HALF of the population was, shall we say less intellectually endowed?
Never though it would be a guise for "extortion" attempts though. I will never be able to un-read that LOL...
Since I have been here so long I do remember quite a few sellers complaining over the years that buyers thought they would receive TWO garments when they purchased a pair of pants. These were not even international buyers who might claim confusion in translation either.
Lesson for today: It is difficult to determine if someone is a "tree shaker" or just stupid. Always follow the advice given by @reallynicestamps in message #4.

I would have blocked the buyer as well.
I wasn't giving you a lecture by the way.
I don't know what she said he said...seller and buyer.
Showing the front and back of the coin on the first photo. Buyer made a mistake. We all make a mistake...
And the "don't do drugs"...I assume at your age of 70 years old you never ever take any pills(which are drugs)....

Thanks, but I will follow my business plan and format. It's worked extremely well for me for over 50 years. I surely would not follow a business plan that includes selling $2 items with free shipping. That is called a hobby and not a business, where one makes a profit for the amount of time invested. Thanks and good luck.

Had one a few years back like that. I sell fishing lures and display them on a lure stand when I take the pictures. Buyer got his lure but wanted to know where the stand was lol.

I recall a while ago a fellow clothing seller selling a pair of pants...showed one pair of pants, talked about one pair of pants, shipped one pair of pants after the buyer had purchased one pair of pants.
The buyer gets his pants and is all bent out of shape because he was expecting TWO sets of pants because, of course, a pair means TWO. He went on and on about it, like a dog with a bone, while the seller kept trying to patiently explain that no, pants come in pairs but it is one garment, and they had only shown ONE pair of pants, or "pant" if he will, not two. He would not be convinced. He also would not return them, even for all of his money back, but just kept demanding that second pair of pants (that was never shown or described). I don't remember how it worked out.
