Afraid to list on EBay

I operate two stores here.  Both automotive in nature, used interior and exterior small parts, both about the same size.  Been selling here for five or six years.

Here's my conundrum.   Wifey likes to go into thrift stores.  She doesn't buy to sell, she buys for herself ... but, mostly she just walks around and looks at stuff.  She came home with something that looked like quality to her.

It's is a pair of sunglasses.  I THINK they are Versace.  IF they are, they are quite valuable.  But, I don't know a thing about them.  Then I read about EBay shutting down stores because they can't show a receipt for everything they've sold in the last month, and listings being taken down ... and

How do I know for sure what it is?   and if it's counterfeit?

Being afraid to list an item which may be counterfeit is a good reaction.

Your thrift shop purchase may be counterfeit. You could be risking your account by listing it

First I would check to see if Versace goods are protected by VERO.  Then I would reach out to a vintage sunglasses dealer and see if they might be able to authenticate them for you from photos. I had a similar experience a few years back and that’s what I did.  Actually ended up selling them to the person on the east coast who authenticated them for me.

If you are not sure what it is you should not list it.

Find an expert you trust.

@clown_car_driver  First try here, be ready with good photos of the sunglasses. The people there should be able to help you with authentication and authentication resources.

Me too. I found a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses. I looked online and saw how expensive they are.

I decided to wear them. Now I found out expensive sunglasses block the sun better than cheap sunglasses.

And I get great comments on wearing them.

Should you sell them to make a buck? No. Tis the season to give someone. You must have some relative that would love them. Or keep and wear them yourself.

@12345jamesstamps
You think those sunglasses are good? You should really try some rhinestone shades

Hey I got some real good suggestions.  Some I already suspected ... some not.

I think what I'm going to do is this:   I'm going to wear them, and the FIRST person (who is friend or relative) who notices and/or admires them ... I'll give them to that person.

And, that's what I'm gonna do.

Thanks ya'll.

Wifey spent all of $3 on them.  If they're counterfeit, they are good.  Well made.  Gold watch screws holding it together ... doesn't matter now.

Goodwill is known to sell fakes, coast to coast. If they were REAL, they would have sold on their internet auction site.

Lots of fake purses and shoes have run through Goodwill. It's NOT a source anyone should trust for luxury brands. They just pedal stuff, and they have got resellers in trouble before reselling goods from there.

You are probably saving yourself a lot of trouble, finding another way to get rid of the sunglasses. Chances are good, they weren't authentic.

I gave a few rhinestone shades to the kids.

My Mauri sunglasses I found retail for $500. Not bad for a find on the sidewalks.

My best friend found a pair of Gucci bamboo sunglasses and gave them to me a month ago. I too hemmed and hawed about selling them here and have not gotten around to deciding what to do but there are authentication programs here not sure for sunglasses. I look sharp in them though. Might keep em for me.

Do they have a serial number on them? My Gucci Bamboo ones do.

It’s not worth taking a chance selling them here at all if you cannot get them authenticated. Do that first. That is not what you need is a raging buyer plastering your feedback page with FAKE.
