Ad / promotion fees + Sales tax

Can someone from eBay tell me why when you are calculating the promotion fee that you are adding the sales tax to the total when doing the calculation.    That is just wrong to do.   The sales tax is not a "profit" or "gain" for the seller.. that tax is what eBay themselves are collecting for the taxing authority.   Why in the heck are you adding that to the promo fee !!!

What is the official channel if any to protest this.    Others need to protest this as well.  Simply going off the final total is lazy programming.   Count the sale and shipping,  but taxes calculated AND collected by eBay should not be include in that calculation.

eBay's fee calculations are found here:

https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/frais-pour-les-vendeurs-particuliers?id=4822

eBay gets to decide how fees are calculated. Individual sellers get to decide whether listing items is worth paying the fees or not.

Yes, eBay can calculate them that way,  but it doesn't mean its correct.   Maybe the "decision makers" at eBay don't know there is an error in how the promotion fee is being calculated and people just are sheepishly following along.

My question is , what is the official channel to use to voice this concern with eBay.   I'm sure they've made changes to their policies in the past when provided feedback.

They know and you agree to it when you list.

I'm sure decisions like this either start at the top or make it's way up there pretty quickly.

Fees are based on the TOTAL COST which is an all encompassing statement that leaves little leeway in interpretation.

@mostlydicestore

Most responders here are not eBay employees.  The recent changes to their Promoted Listings program were intended adjustments.   The minimum % for a PL standard campaign was increased from 1% to 2% and the fees now are based on the item price, shipping, and tax that the buyer pays instead of just the item price.

eBay did it because they can.  PLs are their latest growing revenue stream and they are simply squeezing out some more profit.

ebay started doing that since last June, before that, ebay was calculating the promotion fees on the sold item price only, not included sales taxes or shipping cost.

eBay made the choice to make that change. It is in written policy how it will be done.

You can voice your concern, but eBay chose to make the change. It is not in any way an error.

Nope. eBay intentionally made this change last June. Previous to June, shipping and tax were not included in Sponsored Ad fee calculations. I believe their consideration was if they can legally do it to increase revenue, not if it is right or wrong.

My question is, what is the official channel to use to voice this concern with eBay.

Not here. eBay moderates the board for compliance to rules. I do not believe eBay uses the immense information provided by sellers/users on this board. I believe eBay has this board to cover the majority of their seller/user support needs (provided by sellers/users).

I'm sure they've made changes to their policies in the past when provided feedback.

I don't believe that concept is part of the eBay paradigm (having user feedback play a major role in development of the eBay platform and policies). If they did, I believe Seller/User satisfaction, Sales, and eBay Revenue would all be up.

I contacted ebay and filed a complaint.  they didn't have an answer to my question pertaining to taxation without representation.  I believe that charging ad fees to taxes collected runs into an illegal territory.  This should be protested!  They also didn't have an answer to my question regarding this.  they stated that they filed a complaint on my behalf and would return my call at a later date with a response.  Typically, with this sort of answer it's a copout to get off of the phone conversation and I never receive a response.

I noticed that the promotion fees go up and really upset from eBay .Taxes are not profit to add it to price  that's wrong + eBay performance in general is going down. Adding promotion and don't receive any extra sales like before with promotion .Now you have to put promotions to make regular sales 😡😤
