Access to buyers feedback habits

After reading several posts about people having problems with people wanting refunds saying that the item wasn't as described. Then when the seller receives their items back they are not in the same condition as they were sent. I think eBay should come out with a buyers rating just like the seller rating. I feel as sellers, we should have the same ability to research a buyer just like a buyer can research a seller. We should be allowed to know if a buyer has had x number of returns, x number of charge backs, x number of times they have filed complaints, and the x number of times they haven't payed. Then there should be a place where we can set up our selling parameters based on that info. This would alleviate problems for the seller.  eBay has a habit of only protecting the buyer, but if they don't have sellers, then they won't have buyers. They should protect both parties equally and this is a way to make that happen.

Re: Access to buyers feedback habits

Ebay keeps records themselves with buyers who abuse sellers and their marketplace and takes action on those buyers when enough returns, complaints and other nonsense happens and then closes their account. Problem is they open new one’s and it starts all over. But, their seller protection manager posted awhile back that they are getting more savvy about this actually looking at buyers behavior across all buying platforms as well. So improvements may happen.

Re: Access to buyers feedback habits

Sellers would do well to acknowledge that this is a buyer-centric platform. eBay competes for retail activity (i.e., sales) with every other online retail website on the internet.

Under the current eBay structure, sellers cannot cherry-pick customers based on any of the criteria you've listed except unpaid transactions. As most seasoned sellers will tell you, "If the customer pays, you ship."

If a seller finds eBay's current policies too onerous, there may be better options available.

Re: Access to buyers feedback habits

Thank you for that information. I hope that they do make some improvements.  One thing I have experienced is sellers buying boutique outfits for holiday and when the holiday is over they want to return it and receive a refund. That cost the seller money in shipping and item has been laundered and not in the same condition. Yet, there is no way to prove that and eBay always sides with the seller. Now the season is over so you can't even list the item again. That is what I find so frustrating.

Re: Access to buyers feedback habits

I understand some of what you are saying. However, when I sell a boutique outfit that is holiday themed and then when the holiday is over the buyer sends a request that they want a refund. They have laundered the outfit so it isn't in the condition you sold it in. I have to refund the shipping, pay for the shipping to return it and because the holiday is over I can't even relist the item. It is these types of incidents that I feel sellers should have the right to know what type of buyer the customer is.  Again, if eBay loses its sellers to other online platforms, then they still aren't going to make any money.  eBay has lost sellers to other platforms over these types of situations. It's a two way relationship. There should be a rating system for buyers just like there is for sellers. That is all I am saying.
