I believe this is information that should be disclosed to all sellers BY EBAY. I sold a skin care item new in box with seal intact. 11 days later customer wants to return. Told her that is fine and will be given refund upon inspection of the item. Refuses to communicate with me and opens a case. Item arrives with no box, seal has been completely removed and USED and customer leaves me neutral feedback. I talked to Ebay and was told the buyers are THEIR customers and they will side with them no matter the circumstances. I asked what will happen going forward, is this what I can expect? Was told yes, they would side with the buyer. This is an abuse and Ebay is allowing it. I have had 7 auctions within the last 2 months where the buyer didn't pay. Had to open a case each time as the only recourse is them getting a strike. Doesn't seem to be much of a deterrent as this is continuing. I have sold for 15 years on Ebay and we as sellers are just not protected and will not be by Ebay. I was left negative feedback by one customer because she thought I overcharged her. Her stupidity and I am to blame for it. However, I have no recourse. Ebay has done us a grave injustice. I just want everyone to know if a customer returns an item, no matter the reason or condition, you have no say in the matter. To Ebay's credit they are removing the neutral feedback. I am afraid the information is out now regarding the return of items no matter the reason and they can get their money back and can leave you negative feedback. Also, bidding on an item means nothing anymore and I can attest to that. I still have inventory to list and they are high dollar products. If they are returned used with no seal and may have been contaminated by someone putting their fingers in it, I have no recourse. I had 100% feedback until recently and it really does not stand for anything. A very unfair situation.

Unfortunately, the scammer got the refund, and it wasn`t reversed; eBay refunded you out of our (collective fees and other revenue) money. So the scammer will keep going. Did you report her for abusing Money Back Guarantee online? At least she will have a record for that for future cases.

This isn’t the correct wording, but - exceptions are made for items that have to be opened and/or used to determine if they are okay.

I told the CSRep that I wanted to appeal the decision they made in her favor as she removed the seal and used the item and it could not be re-listed. I am hoping they would put this in her file as anyone who does that will try it again. At least that is my opinion. Thanks for replying.

You need to report her online stating Abuse of Money Back Guarantee. The rep just have a set of duties, so he/she didn`t report her. So please do it for all sellers. It will be easier for the next victim to fight a case.

I absolutely will! I looked at the feedback she left for others. Out of 8 she gave one negative and one neutral. The reason for the negative she left was because she did not receive on time. Seller wrote back it was due to USPS. The Seller then wrote why not contact me before leaving negative feedback. On the neutral feedback left she stated the seller wanted to negotiate and NOT do the full customer service. This person is going to be a problem, at least in my opinion. Thanks for the heads up.

I personally do not believe unpaid item strikes are areal thing.
They are a real thing. Sellers can BLOCK buyers with 2 or more unpaid item strikes. When a buyer with 2 or more unpaid item strikes tries to bid/purchase your item, ebay displays a message letting the buyer know s/he cannot bid/buy from this seller.
Are your buyer requirements in place?

I should consider myself lucky as this situation is the first of its kind for me. I have never had someone send back a used skincare item and refuse to reply back to me. I have to say I began having doubts about this situation when I told her it was not a problem if the item was returned in new condition. I am now gun shy about listing my higher dollar items. I understand a return I take no issue with that. But not the abuse and from what the CSRep told me going forward they would side with the buyer no matter the condition of the item. I appreciate the feedback I have received here and will implement some changes to further try to protect myself. I have really enjoyed being on Ebay, however I am not sure if I can continue. I know you said you read my updates so this buyer of the 8 feedbacks she has left one was negative and one was neutral. If they would not have removed the one she left on mine it would be one negative and 2 neutrals. I just think the word is out. They did not reverse the outcome of the decision where mine was concerned. One person said what they did was a courtesy refund and she is exactly right. Don't get me wrong I am appreciative but it doesn't solve the issue we sellers face. Thanks for the input.

Thank you for explaining that. I was wondering if the outcome of the situation was reversed and I now had the product what would happen after that. I only received a notification stating it was reversed but no reason why. When I read your response it shocked me as that is exactly what they did. And while I am appreciative of that and the removal of the neutral feedback it does not solve the issue going forward for the sellers. This buyer left a neutral feedback for a seller and stated the seller wanted to negotiate and not offer the full customer service. That is abuse plain and simple. Thank you for replying. I have learned a lot from all of you that responded and will implement changes going forward.
