About Video In Stores

I was checking out the action from eBay's first Hard To Find Holiday pop up event in Detroit over the weekend and noticed the featured seller has a video in their store's about section.

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques and anyone else who has been asking about this - here's what it looks like in the wild on app and desktop.

I haven't seen it on any other stores yet and checking my own account I don't see any way to add a video either on desktop or in the app - so it appears to be another phased rollout.  But at least this shows they *do* have things ironed out on the tech side and the feature is working, so hopefully the rest of us will be gaining access to it "soon" too.

Still no newsletter sign up button though. ☹️

Well, I'll be darned! I've been checking pretty much everyday, but didn't look today...sure enough, there it is! Thanks valueadded, and thanks, eBay Stores team!

Of course, might be a while before I can get time to create a video, but nice to know it's here!

So....maybe coming "soon"...video for listings? tyler@ebay  Any news on that?

Re: About Video In Stores

Well, OK, I gave it a whirl.....I didn't create a new video, I simply uploaded a video I had made for a Christmas angel music box I'm selling. Easy peasy, and it looks like this will be easy to replace or remove. (I'm leaving it up for now).  It's very straightforward. No editing within ebay, you want to make sure your video is the way you want it before uploading. ebay reviews it before it can go live, a process ebay says can take up to 48 hours, but took seconds in this case (I expect that will change as more people start using it, and as more complicated videos are uploaded).

On the video itself, there's a mute button, a full screen button and a "report" button to report any videos that violate ebay rules.

It will be interesting to see how many sellers actually use this.

The video looks good @my-cottage-books-and-antiques !

I was thinking for sellers who don't know what to upload a video of or those who maybe don't feel comfortable being the "star" of the show, you could put together just a slideshow of pictures of some of the items you sell or a collection of images that represent your store categories.

The video looks great @my-cottage-books-and-antiques!

Video for listings has been difficult to get any kind of timeline for. Does anyone use a third party listing tool or list via eBay API? The team I've been talking with says that it's available those routes, but not on our listing tools yet.

tyler@ebay  according to this page, there are only two third party providers that offer the option for video in listings at this time.  https://pages.ebay.com/seller-center/listing-and-marketing/third-party-providers.html#seller-video

Seller Video is an exciting new offering. The following Third Party Providers enable sellers to upload video within their listings:

  • ChannelAdvisor
  • Codisto

I am familiar with ChannelAdvisor and can say it is definitely for the large, multi-channel business seller.  It looks like based on price point and features Codisto is too.  I'm guessing not many of the community regulars are using those tools, unfortunately.

I know we do have some regulars around here that are well versed on the API side of things, maybe some of them have tested it out? @shipscript  @zamo-zuan - maybe @wastingtime101  or @a_c_green ?

Like I said in my thread about it here, so far I've only seen it on Authenticity Guaranteed and Certified Refurbished items and the video looks like it's produced by eBay with info about those programs, not about the item itself, so I'm guessing in those cases that is something eBay is automatically putting in for all listings in those programs, not that the seller themselves has uploaded the video.

If there are sellers using the video function to showcase their items, I'd love to see an example!

Re: About Video In Stores

Sorry, I haven't even looked into videos beyond some general chat @valueaddedresource. I can only see a video benefit for one of my categories (most of what I sell is really straightforward) and that one category is a lower price point where it's not cost or time efficient to use videos.

As many of you know, I do have a tool to generate compliant html code from YouTube for insertion into the description. It works best in the older Business Lister and is less viable in the Quick Lister or new Unified lister.

https://www.isdntek.com/tagbot/YouTubeConverter.htm

So it is still a workaround until eBay's new video feature becomes available within the listing flow (most likely within the new Unified Lister). eBay's video uploader will place videos in the image gallery.

https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/listings/creating-managing-listings/add-video-to-listing?id=5272

I haven't looked at the API in depth. The API is beta, and will require setting a token in the user account. It will also mean setting aside server space for videos up to 150MB in size as part of the upload.  I don't think I will be testing it soon. 😞

Re: About Video In Stores

Thanks @shipscript  @wastingtime101  - that could still be some valuable information for eBay as far as why those who have the knowledge to use the API for this may not be jumping on the bandwagon.
