I've been a member since 1998. I used ebay quite extensively up until the tax reforms when they started taxing everything. Used goods that have already been taxed by government are and should not be taxed again, it's called double dipping. Anyway, it became a turnoff, so I stopped using ebay to sell things, bought a couple of things once in a while. Then, a few days ago I sold an item on ebay. This item sold for $120. I was charged a final value fee based on $132....
The first problem is being charged 12.9% for something by a company that doesn't do anything except run server farms and write a software program. You do millions of transactions, no need to take so much of a cut. I hear it's worse for video games and other items...but then you charge me a final value fee including the tax???? **bleep**?...First, to the people of Illinois, 10% sales tax? wow, fire your politicians. But hey it's tax, whatever, the point is that ebay is adding on to the final value fee the tax as well? Is that even legal? It's sales tax, a requirement by the government, why the F are you charging me based on the amount including tax? the final value is not $132, The final value of the item was $120, where the auction ended at. The tax does not add any value to the item. So your grubby little greedy paws are stealing from the people who use this service. You are Thieves.
goodbye

No - its called a Sales Tax.

No - 7.25% base. More in some areas.

Its a percentage of the buyers payment.

The 12.9% FVF has been the same for years.
The tax on the total amount including shipping and tax has also been the same for years.
All of a sudden it bothers you?
Good luck to you in the future.

eBay doesn't "tax" anything. And if "used goods" were not subject to sales tax, then everything would be sold as "used." Have a cup of coffee, you need to wake up.

if you've been using ebay extensively since 1998 than you should know and have common sense to know that any sale has sales tax silly. Is college in your future or anymore education now that you are out of the selling gig? Sounds like you need professional help, especially if you don't know about the politics in Illinois. If you have been on ebay for 24 years then you have certainly been kept in a closet.

Policies on fees are written in clear English. I’m guessing you didn’t read it otherwise you wouldn’t be here complaining about it.
Here’s the policy in case you want to peruse it Selling Fees
We really didn’t need to be notified that you’re leaving eBay the only people that see this rant are fellow eBayers no one from eBay so good bye.
FYI if ( I say if , cause most eBayers who claim they are leaving never really do..just sayin ) you close your account it will take up to 60days or more to complete depending on when your last sale was.

"You are Thieves."
No, don't believe so. When you post here, you aren't addressing eBay.
Well, best of luck, wherever you go. May I suggest you check out the fees very carefully before you start listing on whatever site you choose?

let me make sure I understand your rant....
ebay charged you a fee on the total sale as they should
you are going off the deep end over the $1.54 portion of the fee due to the sales tax?
The same sales tax that is mandated by the government of the state the buyer resides in?
It would cost you a lot more than $1.54 to collect, escrow, file, remit and process a sales tax return for the city/county or state that the buyer resides in.
I am flummoxed...
oh, try not to 'wig out' if your payout is delayed....I suspect you may have missed that memo too

This is your statement to the public, as part of your eBay User-ID:
"I hate people that ask questions that are answered in the auction. RTFA, Read the F$%^ing Auction. Ask a stupid question and get banned. Buyers who don t read auctions are nothing but trouble...banning you keeps me from getting negative feedback."
I say, the herd thins nicely.

Life is short...
Sell on eBay what is profitable to sell on eBay.
Sell the rest elsewhere.
Donate the unsellable.

eBay does not tax anything. (And the federal government does not tax everything either.)
Used goods that have already been taxed by government are and should not be taxed again
I assume you are talking about sales tax? If so, "items" are not taxed - the financial transactions are. (If used goods were not taxed, every store would sell everything as "used".)
The first problem is being charged 12.9% for something by a company that doesn't do anything except run server farms and write a software program.
The solution is incredibly simply - just set up your own website and use one of the dozens of free auction software packages out there. (I think you will find eBay's primary "product" is not servers or software, but traffic).

The word "flummoxed" just isn't used enough. I like that word, as it applies to so many posts here. It's also why I no longer have the will or strength anymore to get involved in threads like this. The OP will never get it. Never.

Flummoxed would make a great ID.

From your profile: "Buyers who don t read auctions are nothing but trouble"
How about sellers who don't read the user agreement?

In regard to this posting, wow, just wow. I think your ID says it all. Of course, that's my opinion.
