50% Off FVF Promo for Volume Discount Listings

This just showed up in my inbox. Interesting.

Full FVF charged on 1st, subsequent get 50% off FVF.

This Promotion will begin on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at 00:00:01 PT (12:00 AM plus one second), and will end on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at 23:59:59 PT (11:59 PM plus 59 seconds), for listings on www.ebay.com (the “Promotion Period”).

Can anyone tell me how the cart handles shipping on volume purchases?

I looked at the volume pricing setup and decided it was too convoluted for me.

I hear that. My listing and IT department is me.

I'd probably be farther ahead by just getting more listings up rather than try and figure it all out.

Not sure how the shipping would be calculated through the cart. I sell heavy things, and the odds of hosing myself on shipping are not insignificant.

They want you to pick items by giving the SKU or product ID.  Is there some trick to doing that for 500 items quickly?  It would take me all day to copy and paste all of them into the field.

i guess it is meant to be for one and the same item, of which you have multiples for sale.... it does not work when trying to sell all kind of different listings in one big order.

That would be nice if you could do it by just clicking the listings like when you use the percentage off sales. It's not that user friendly and I might have used it.

@ozarkjoe Wish I could help you. I have no clue. I've never used the tool, but ebay apparently wants me to try it.

I'd like to know if it takes the discount off before or after adding the shipping. I already use a percentage combined shipping discount. Further discounts would hose me on shipping for sure.

I'm trying to decide if it's worth trying to figure it out. And what the damages might be if I do it wrong, lol!

In the other thread I linked another seller ( @penguins_dont_fly ) posted a promo workaround (post #40) that they use that looks like it works great for her. That volume discount method wouldn't be elegible for the FVF discount though, so there's that to consider.

Yes, something like that sure would be helpful, wouldn't it?

I suppose copying and pasting a bunch of SKU's or product ID's might be worth it for a month-long promo. Maybe. I'm terrible at things like that.

Yep I was going to give it a go since it is similar to a discount I already give. Actually I like it better. But when I got to adding listings I backed out. All my items are different and I'm not going to copy and paste each one. Oh well

The same way shipping is handled on other purchases. The volume discount is for item cost so it would not affect shipping unless you use Free Shipping.

If you have your combined shipping rules set up, then it works.

We list in the same cats.

I weigh everything and add 1 lb to the item weight in the listing.

My combined rule says "Add all weights and subtract 14 oz for each additional" which means first one at full weight, all others (weight-14).

This is normally spot on for me ...

All of my listings are set up for Calculated Priority

So ...

Dinner Plate weights 1 lb 2 oz

I List it as 2 lbs 2 oz (34 oz)

Buyer buys 4

(34x4)-(14x3) = 94 oz (5.8 lbs)

The buyer will be charged for 5-6 lb priority

Does that make sense ?

I use a flat rate scheme with a surcharge to far zones (anything past zone 5) and a 50% combined discount for additional purchases. Setting up the surcharges with the goofy way thay have that thing set up was an adventure to say the least! That's a whole separate rant though 😉

I'm not set up to have my scale out and handy all of the time, but I'm considering all sorts of things to try going forward.

I sell lots, as opposed to singles. I can't sell singles to save my life.

Has anyone successfully launched this promotion?  I tried the day it was received - spent an hour and half doing copy and paste for 199 Item ID numbers (As shown in my Seller Hub) and it would not recognize them.  Kept telling me they had to be 19 digits ??    I only see them as 12 digits.  Did I miss something??
