Or yes they can. That would fall under the Service Metrics. You should take a close look at your numbers there. The graph will tell you if you are getting close or are already in the penalty fees which are now 6%.

There is also your Seller Dashboard that you need to make sure you review at a minimum of once a week to make sure your account is in good health. And you can tell if you are starting to get into troubled waters in some areas. You can view this from your Seller Hub. The Dashboard tracks your Defects.

HOW MANY unique buyers have you received returns from?
If less than 10 you have no worries.
Here's mine listed as "HIGH""
Adjustment reason:Requests from less than 10 buyers

If less than 10 you don't have to be concerned about the Service Metrics yet, one more and you would. But how you handled those returns could affect your Defects on your Seller Dashboard which can affect the health of your selling account.

Dilute the ratio by selling more. The percentages are based on sales VS returns. That's the only way you can affect it. Otherwise you will have a penalty fee for 6% extra for at least 2 months.

Depends on the reasons for returns.
If you are making no mistakes, I'm not sure you can do much about that.....feasibly anyway.
If you sell more, there will be more returns.
About the only thing I can see would be to contact your buyer prior to shipment just as a quick confirmation that they are buying the correct part for their application. Which, isn't really "feasible".
But I would for sure do it with your "expensive to ship" items.
You know as well as anybody....nobody reads anything
