2 orders, same items, 2 new accounts, same person, same address

I just got 2 orders for my

Merry Brite Christmas Dishes Place Setting: Dinner Plate, Salad Plate, Bowl, Cup

https://www.ebay.com/itm/165465841498

from 2 different accounts, both with 0 feedback.  One order for 1 setting, the 2nd for 3 settings.

The accounts are similar, like abc 291710 and abc 29875, the orders were placed 15 minutes apart.  The ship to addresses are identical.  Both accounts are new as of today.

I messaged the buyer on both accounts, this is what I sent.

Hello BUYER NAME HERE. I noticed you placed 2 orders for Merry Brite Dishes on 2 separate new accounts on ebay with the same address. Usually people have only one account. I am checking to make sure these orders are not in error. Please let me know. Amanda

It may be an error, may be fraud.  Is there allowed to be more than one account per name and address?  Should I message ebay on FB?  Looking for opinions from experienced sellers.

Thanks so much, Amanda

Without meaning to diminish your concerns -

It is possible that they wanted to order 4 settings and clicked the buy now button on the first order and then realized their mistake in not changing the quantity, hence the second order for 3 (having learned their mistake).

The difference in user names may be because they are using a "guest" account. That is the situation where someone buys something without going to trouble of fully registering and eBay assigns a temporary ID.. That is somewhat normal. and each guest would receive a separate name.

Then again, you have been here long enough that I would think you already know this. Take the orders and ship.

Unfortunately, since there are 2 IDs involved you will have to ship them as two separate orders as you can not combine one tracking number across 2 IDs.

Yea, I probably be a bit concerned albeit scamstu new buyers dont tend order dishes but then what do I know?

Yes, people can have accounts at the same address as they are different people albeit some may use others names to defraud.  Problem with Credit Cards... Maybe it's gotten better.  I can tell you back when I'd merchant account through Wells Fargo and later Card Service International I could type anything and as long as the card was good, expirary correct and CVC code correct capture everytime.

I could put in:

Micky Mouse

1234 Moon Street

Jupiter, FL 12345

That'd capture.  It'd fail Address validation, Zip validation but if processing software set to ignore failed AVS versus reject, it'd capture.  We'd it set to ignored AVS failures or a good 30% of valid orders would fail. People enter "St" instead of "Street" or "Rd" instead of "Road", "Pk" instead of "Park", "Trl" instead of "Trail" why many a place when entering you're card say, "Exactly as it appears as you're billing address."

Any AVS failure yet still allowing capture result in little bit more in the Discount Rate fee (commission fee if you will.)

Actually, I never thought about guest accounts.  I have been around awhile, but there is still so much I don't know.  Thanks for the quick response and for sharing your time, especially during the busy holiday season.  I appreciate it so much!  Amanda

2 orders, same items, 2 new accounts, same person, same address

A couple days ago ebay was offering me a $5 off coupon for a purchase if I use the ebay app.

Sometimes people will take advantage of those deals on more than one account.

Also there are online shopping rewards programs that people get involved with. For example they might offer a discount on your first ebay purchase. Easy to see how people will take advantage of those offers by having multiple accounts.

The only possibility I could thnk of, other than what the other posters suggested, is that maybe 2 people living in the same house opened 2 separate accounts to purchase the same item without the other family member knowing about it after one of them expressed interest in it. Maybe one of them is buying it for the other one who lives with them as a surprise gift and either doesn't realize that the other person already purchased that same item, or maybe they wanted to buy another one for them?

I don't see anything wrong.

Maybe they used different payment methods for each order.

Maybe they meant to buy 4 but messed up on the first order.

Members can have more then one account.

Have A Great Day.
