1099-K Tax Forms

Today I was informed by my accountant that she needs 1099-K forms from me for my 2019 & 2020 eBay sales even though I didn't reach the reporting threshold either year. I've searched both eBay and PayPal for a way to generate or request the forms (it's my understanding that eBay will only auto-generate them if the threshold is met) and so far I've gotten nowhere. How do I go about getting these forms? Any advice will be appreciated and thanks in advance to anyone willing to give some.

1099-K Tax Forms

I had an accountant for 6 or 7 years, and for a different reason, I got rid of her.

I started using business and personal turbotax 5 years ago and I haven't turned back.

I also had  a  parttime regular job as well, that why  I needed the personal part .

It's cheaper, but will take some time to learn it.   It's not bad though, you just answer the questions

and it figures it for you.   I don't think your accountant really needs those forms, but I am no expert.

but to use turbo tax you will have needed to keep good records.

This may not help you but it's something to think about.

You tell your accountant you have all your business records, didn't receive a 1099 because you didn't reach the thresholds. If she stills says she needs something or doesn't think she can do the returns without a 1099 then you need to find a new accountant as the one you have is incompetent.

FYI - Assuming you were not in Managed Payments in 2019/2020 eBay would not have anything for you and now way to get anything for you, it would all be at PayPal.

I can't believe your accountant is asking for something that is not generated because your activity did not meet the threshold. That's like asking for a W-2 when you were not employed.

Your accountant is going to have to rely on your own income/deductions figures for filling out your Schedule C. -- or get into another line of business.

I've heard good things about Turbo Tax. But I use GoDaddy.com, which ties into my Ebay, Amazon, Etsy and PayPal activity in realtime, keeps automatic track of income and expenses, and generates a report at any time and at the end of the year. I  just hand it over to my CPA... After getting my account setup, which is intuitive and relatively easy, the only thing I have to do by hand is categorize a few income an expense items here and there, and enter my mileage. The yearly subscription cost is very reasonable, considering the time savings throughout the year -  especially  since I don't have that much hair any more to pull out in frustration at tax time.

Cheers, Duffy
