was checking my listings (other user name/different browser) and what do i see today under my starting price?:

1 year protection $1.99 from Assurant.

i am amazed at all the stuff i see in my listings when i look at them on a different computer/browser/user name...

funny that when i do the same search at home (by user name or item search), on my laptop/browser...

all that stuff is NOT there...

i see a problem with this insurance thing.

buyers thinking i am related to this company so selling their product?

surely don't want it to become my burden down the line.

also this insurance is really stretching.

offering a protection for a $12 piece of Jewelry (FP)????

when did this start?

i assume if Ebay does it, we have no say?

i assume it also is legal?

Yes, eBay places the offer and it cannot be removed by the seller.

What is your specific questions about legality?

Assurant is a paid warranty agreement between the buyer and Assurant.

What isn't covered?

You'll need to refer to the Terms and Conditions for our full list of exclusions and conditions, but below are some examples of items that aren't covered:

Auto parts/tools/accessories: Products which are consumable in nature like belts (basically anything that you would need to replace yourself in due time), defects that existed prior to the purchase of the protection plan, and problems related to improper installation or repair.
Jewelry: Loss of primary stone, ring sizing or resizing, and defects that existed prior to the purchase of the protection plan.
Watches: Batteries, crystals (for watches under $500), counterfeit products, and defects that existed prior to the purchase of the protection plan.

Oh, that's priceless. So eBay is inserting ads for product insurance into categories for which that insurance is specifically excluded?

rather than offering protection in my listings;

ebay should invest the money into fixing this board.

it was silly for me to ask about legality.

if ebay does it, it has to be.

it just bugs me.

i have to give Paypal authorization to advertise Paypal preferred in my listings.

but i don't when it comes to Assurant?

u know it is not like all the other advertising.

it is another party trying to sell a service for $ for my product.

the service is tied to my product.

the service is advertised in my listing.

i could see this becoming my burden down the line.

saw lots of restriction in Jewelry.

few items of mine i checked so far were all jewelry, all offering protection...

I suppose you could put a disclaimer in your listings, to warn that Assurant ads were offering coverage that was expressly not valid in your category, but that would probably get someone at eBay a bit miffed at you.

It might be better to cut out the middleman and simply point Assurant themselves to your listing as an example, to show that eBay is taking their money to run their insurance ads in wildly inappropriate categories, those for which Assurant themselves will not honor claims, at least not under all circumstances. In the case of the Jewelry disclaimers, I'm not sure what's left that you would be able to claim for...

I hear you about not being able to post, sign-in, and whatever you do, do not use the spell-checker which I call the speel-chucker! IT will print the words it questions 6 or 7 times!

The warranty is supposed to be between Assurant and the buyer, but you could name that tune in 2 notes...Paypal and hold!

They're offering a warranty on used/refurbished jewelry? I am laughing my posterior off...whoo boy!

Have you read the new jewelry policy? It does not comply with federal regulations for classifying noble metals & gemstones online.

is this new? wouldn't be surprised...

right when Ebay changed all the jewelry requirements.

like Sterling can no longer be listed in "Fashion Jewelry".

had plenty sterling listing in the latter.

had to move them all to "Fine" to comply.

this will end up being a problem.

read some of the Jewelry restrictions and wonder why would Assurant want to protect my used fine jewelry listings?

so they can deny a claim and then ends up being the seller's nightmare?

didn't want to but will have to read what the protection is about and know what to expect.

i hope not too many buyers will fall for this non sense...

Perhaps it is a matter of ebay 'saying' what the 'new jewelry criteria' is, the Feds saying 'nope', and Assurant saying that the buyer bought it on ebay's recommendation, the Feds say nope, so Assurant is off the hook for coverage and walks off with the coverage fees - IF the buyer bothers to file for such a measly amount.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.

Perhaps if Brains were described as an APP, many people would use them more often.

Any indication of how Assurant gets paid?

Is it just tacked on to the check-out? If so, does the seller get charged the fvf amount including that?

Is it a separate charge to Assurant? If so, do they pay the pp fees of is that off of the seller?

OR, does the buyer have to go through the whole check-out process with Assurant ?

Why would I want to buy sometyhing for a buck and have to pay a buck warranty. I'll just buy another with less hassall. Why have a 'no thanks' button if it doesn't work!

It seems to me they are trying to make steal our money.

Who would want a warranty for an item less than 10 bucks?

Guess im buying less at ebay!!!

Assurant is a scam. I have called 7 times and they assure me a gift card will be issued for my item's value ($70) and then nothing happens. DO NOT USE THIS INSURANCE SCAM!!!!!!!!!
