Is it possible to imbed my own personal photos of items from My Amazon Photos in an item description on an eBay auction? I thought I had done so successfully and when I logged out of Amazon, all of the links were broken inside the item descriptions.

As long as the photos are delivered over a secure https connection, eBay doesn't care about the source of photos embedded within the description. However, the image host or photo owner may care. Photo owners can file a VeRo claim to remove the pilfered photos from eBay listings (in your case, you are the owner of the photos). Some hosts will block hotlinking to sales venues. I don't know if Amazon blocks hotlinking from their hosting or whether a wrong or incomplete URL was copied. Do you have a listing with the broken links?

You can take a screenshot of the item and then edit it in your photo app. It can't say broken link once you've captured the image

A screencapture may be a reasonable method for saving a photo to your computer, but it won't solve the problem of embedding the image down in the item description because it would still need to be hosted online somewhere.

Did you ever get this to work? I would also like to use Amazon Photos as the source for pictures I display in a listing, but have not been able to figure out how to find the URL for the actual Amazon image object.
