Updated Listing Tool Format is GREAT! Thank you eBay for listening.

What a pleasant surprise today when I found out the listing format has been updated.
It is clear, compact, easy to use, easy to the eyes. No more unnecessary clicks.
I am delighted to post about a positive change.

Just one more small thing to make it perfect: we need an easier access to HTML.

I also am happy to give praise when good changes happen!  Although i am curious- how did you notice less clicking?  All i saw was that the item specific boxes are wider and look like you should be able to type in them, but when you try, a popup box/dropdown appears and you are typing in it instead- then you hit enter to exit it.  I see the visual difference but i am still trying to see if it made any real change.   I want to see it for sure but i only did 6 or 7 listings today and i could not put my finger on it.......

Changes that still need to be made:

  1. category selection is horrible- we need a cascading dropdown menu like classic so we can actually see the progressive "tree" of subcategories instead of seeing only 3 or 4 AI generated ones that often are wrong- now we must start from scratch every time we want to change category

  2. Expanded toolbar in description box MUST be made available without all the extra confirmation clicks

  3. shipping calculator needs a link on the main flow instead of extra clicks

  4. picture editor needs to rotate opposite direction....its backwards from every other photo editor in the world!

  5. Item specifics have absolutely no structure- they are in a different order for every sub category - its confusing and makes us search every listing!..... it should be universally consistent= brand, part #, vintage / etc.   Right now they move around - it so anti- efficient and confusing. we cant get a rythm when all the boxes are moving around. just keep them uniform

  6. still waiting for the cancel button at the end

7 item specifics dump out all data when changing by just a simple sub category- it annoying to lose all info when trying to use the best category.  Not talking about switching from glassware to car parts but if i change from taillight assemblies to taillight lenses I lose 90% of my item specifics which are exactly the same and its maddening.   These are just a few of the reasons that this tool is still so much slower to use than the classic......

siamjane8: I understand your frustration based on my positive post. I guess the format has improved greatly and is much easier for me to use due to the fact that we are listing in different categories.  And of course, I do not have to deal with the same issues you have in regard to shipping. I used to sell antiques and collectibles long time ago, so I understand.

Because I was so frustrated with the new listing tool format few months ago, I created 5 templates with each template still requiring a few different item specifics, but overall making my listing less complicated.

Now, with the updated format, it is much easier to list (for me)
Pro: No more little boxes spread all over the page popping up randomly, having to click on to "see what's inside (nope, not what I need)" and clicking on more little boxes, etc.
Pro: Good dropdowns with intuitive options
Pro: Easy to look at format

Pro: Overall easier faster listing

Con: Yes, having to click on + to add a specific is annoying.
Con: Having to click several times to use (and be discouraged to) HTML is very annoying.

Hopefully more updates are on the way.

I am attaching screen shots of my updated listing templates.template 01.pngtemplate 02.pngtemplate 03.pngtemplate 04.png

I do think we need to be grateful for small victories too.   I dont want to be a grumpy guss  about the listing tool, its just been such a long an arduous journey for the last 2 years.  It literally started from beyond zero. It was the opposite of anything that could even improved on. It was just plain bad design.

That being said- it has come along way and is workable.    Still too many issues and clicks but as you mentioned most of the ridiculous poppup boxes are gone.

No doubt the team is working hard to satisfy us and give us a good working tool- its probably not even their fault- they were given a direction and told to pursue it.... but mobile forced onto desktop was a huge flop and we are still dealing with the fallout.

It likely to continue getting better if we keep sending feedback.

Exactly, we need to continue sending feedback.
Being grumpy, under the circumstances, is understandable. I've got my moments too. It has been a long and stressful journey but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Wishing you a good productive week!

After listing more today....I did appreciate the larger item specific boxes that were mostly typeable fields and not dropdowns or worse yet popup boxes. It is much faster to just type what the seller already knows is the item specific than having to select it out of a list that may or may not include the correct IS.

It would be nice to fix the category selection next so that we can see all the sub categories as we go again so we have a better site picture to choose from. AI just does not cut it. The seller knows best and just needs the tools to quickly make selections without extra friction.

As always- make the advance description tools available without extra confirmation clicks!!  You can't discourage us from making good listings, you are just annoying us and making it take longer than necessary.

Well, not so great anymore! When launching new listings a moment ago, the listing tool page reverted to poor format.

The box for condition description is pitifully small.  One issue I have is under description, after I have clicked a few times that yes, I want to see all options (upper right corner), I am having issues using my custom templates.

1.  my template is shown but to insert it you have to follow it all the way to the right and click insert.  As you follow it, it will drop off.  I have to click it again and try to get the box to stay on the screen until I can click on it.

2.  when I actually get it to stay and then click on it, it inserts it at the beginning, not where my cursor is

If anyone has figured this out, let me know.  I am just doing extra typing rather than using the template.  Each listing I make uses 3 of those templates, so it isn't easy.

Pictures are working better and it is getting easier to move them around.

Is the template you are trying to paste is HTML or plain text?

@evry1nositswindy

1.  Your flyout menu is "losing focus" (that's the technical term when you report this on the feedback screen). What it means is that there is just a tiny gap that your mouse must cross to get from your main menu to the flyout menu. This distance varies by each browser's CSS interpretation of dimensioning. As your mouse crosses that gap, it falls through the crack and "loses focus", so is no longer associated with the menu. If you zip over fast enough you can sometimes jump that gap. That's your workaround, but do report it. I use Firefox and found the same issue when I tested just now.  I'll also report it.

2. I didn't experience this second issue. When the menu lost focus, it's possible the underlying caret (pointer) location was also lost, or was moved.  I did find that some of my templates failed to paste, and that the HTML view no longer shows the template option. All of my templates include HTML, so I will need to see if there are some sorts of HTML that won't paste.

@shipscript I'm glad you understood because it was hard to describe.  I can't scoot over fast enough because it disappears.  I miss being able to just click the template name itself.

@vivabe

What the heck happened! I just got switched back to the older more terrible format as well!!

This does not make any sense at all.  Back to popup boxes and having to click unbranded to get a box to type the brand in ...????

why make it better for 1 week and then revert to slower more frustrating format?

simple is better / less clicks are better /  visible is better / faster is better / less confusing is better

Because they likely found some overwhelming bug and had to roll back the rollout. It will probably return after they fix whatever awful thing happened.
