Problem trying to figure out Card Attributes is not allowed as a variation specific error

Good morning.  I am trying to create a new listing that is a Pick Your card lot with 5 different cards.   I updated the Attributes and options you've selected part.   For each variation I entered a different picture, price, and quantity.  But when I try to list the item I am getting a 'Card Attributes is not allowed as a variation specific error".  I don't understand what this means.  I have been doing this format for many weeks now.  The version that I am working on is based on a 'Sell Similar" that I did on one I created 2 weeks ago.   Tried playing with Item Specifics and even Category with no luck

Is there some kind of update in ebay where this types of listing can't be done anymore?

Thanks

Problem trying to figure out Card Attributes is not allowed as a variation specific error

This is a complete waste of our time.  We should not be spending more hours fixing our listings as a result of ebay breaking them.  Everyone should be contacting customer support and demanding they fix this immediately on their end.  If Ebay doesn't fix this I'm permanently moving all of my listings to Amazon and I will never use EBay again.  I've been selling on ebay for over 20 years and they treat me like this?  UNACCEPTABLE!

None of us deserve this treatment and ebay needs to do something about this.  I put in HUNDREDS of hours of labor to create these listings and ebay wants me to do it all over again?.  F THAT.  Let your voice be heard!

Contact customer service, and when they send you that "how did we do?" email, give them one star and make it abundantly clear that THOUSANDS OF US ARE GETTING SCREWED BY EBAY.

So have this issue actually been fixed yet??? If so please update!

I have listings that I cannot fix. And I do not want to relist and take new pictures of several thousand cards.

@mjbbg572

I don't see any variation listings on this account. Have you ended them? If so, you may need to edit them one at a time to relist.

The names of your variation groups can not be the name of an item specific. For instance, you can not have "Card Name", "Card Number",  or "Card Attributes" as the name of a drop list, but you could name the variation list as "Card #". To manually rename a variation group, add a new (second) group with the new name. Then copy the values for the old group into the new group and delete the old group.

On your parent record, you will be required to populate the "Graded" attribute with "Yes" or "No" and must enter the "Sport" attribute.

Problem trying to figure out Card Attributes is not allowed as a variation specific error

I have ended all of my listings that have this problem. I am in the process of relisting these baseball cards. And I am being careful with naming the item specifics.

I just did not want to waste time to type everything in and add pictures again but I did not believe I had another choice.

Another problem that I have encountered is when I ended a listing with say 500 items with 200 sold, all 500 became automatically available for sale again when I relisted. I had to go into the listing to manually delete the sold ones. Luckily, baseball cards are listed in numerical order so it was not as bad as I thought.

However, I have to do this with over 60 listings. So it is very time consuming.

Thanks!

@mjbbg572

I'm sorry to hear they ended. Had they been left running, we could have used some bulk tools to create a spreadsheet revision.

As it is, when you relist, you should be able to copy the individual variations to a new group name as described above, before deleting the old group. That will keep your photos attached, so you won't need to fool with those. Try with a short list first.

If you plan to keep repopulating your listings with new cards, be sure to set the "out of stock" control in your account settings. That way, when you edit the sold items to zero, they will remain in the list with no inventory.  Otherwise, if this is a one-time list, then just delete the sold items. If you had more than one of a particular card, you may have to recount those.

I don't have any ended items to test. Can you get a report of your ended variations to see if the variations and count are available in that report to help with your editing?

Problem trying to figure out Card Attributes is not allowed as a variation specific error

Thank you for all the information!!!

But it is too late to implement for my listings. I wish I knew about the "out of stock" control button sooner. (And I bet many bulk item sellers do not know about this) I had already relisted just about everything when I noticed that items that I had already sold reappeared as being available. Thank goodness I set a future date for all the listings to start. Or else I would've had an even bigger issue to deal with.

Please dumb this down and explain as specifically as you can, i tried figuring this out and got nowhere.

for example, when i click x on "card attribute", all the cards i listed disappear.  i don't even remotely understand what you mean when you said that

@paradigmsubversion59

First, you may want to print a list of the variation options along with price and quantity so that you will have something to reference when you add them back under a new name. You can download a spreadsheet template from Seller Hub Reports.

Seller Hub - uploads -  template - price-quantitySeller Hub - uploads - template - price-quantity

To change the name of a variation attribute, in the screen below named "Card Details", start by adding a new card attribute. Click the "+Add" option. Select or type the new name for the variation group and save it.  Below I have left the old attribute checked and also checked "Add your own attribute", which opened a slot to type a new name.

Unified Lister - Variation add AttributeUnified Lister - Variation add Attribute

From there, flip back and forth between your old attribute group and you new one.

Do not accidentally click the "x" on your original when swapping between attribute names.

You should be able to copy the player from your old list and then, on the new list, "create your own" and paste it into the slot. Save each time by clicking the "Add" beside the new entry.

Clicking a player name will toggle it on or off as a member of the group. Notice below that I had five names in the original group. As I copied and pasted each player as a new option within my  NewName group, that actually toggled the player "off" so I could easily see that I was moving from one group to the other.  It is still a good idea to proof your lists.

Unified Lister - Variation renameUnified Lister - Variation rename

When your player list is complete, only then should you "X" the original attribute name to delete that group.

When you proceed to the quantity and price screen, that data will be cleared, so use your downloaded Seller Hub report as a cheat sheet.

The photos should automatically move from your old attribute group to your new attribute group as long as the name of each option is exactly the same.

SPREADSHEET OPTION

If the above is too tedious, you could use this online tool to create a spreadsheet that will rename your variation groups. The spreadsheet would be uploaded to Seller Hub Reports.

https://www.isdntek.com/ebaytools/VariationScanner.htm

However, if your Item Specifics have not been properly updated to include "Graded" and "Sport", the process will be more complicated.

The tool has the option to change the value for item condition. The default value for trading-card-singles is 3000 (used). All other values are rejected.

@biggwillis_sportscards

I stopped programming when my computer quit last september and am only dabbling a bit as I get used to this entirely different computer operating system with its different tools.  So the answer is "maybe".

Where are you in your issues?

Problem trying to figure out Card Attributes is not allowed as a variation specific error

@biggwillis_sportscards

When I scanned your 143 variation listings a couple of weeks ago, 10 of the problem listings had a variation named "Card Number" and 84 of the listings had a variation named "Card Attributes". All 94 will need a different variation name. I've chosen "Card#", but you can choose something else.

Does your seller hub show any listings that have required "Item Specifics"? If so, those will also prevent editing your listings. When a listing has mandates from two directions, then both issues must usually be addressed simultaneously.

If only the variation name is the problem, you can bulk fix them yourself using the Bulk Variation Scanner:

https://www.isdntek.com/ebaytools/VariationScanner.htm

This LINK leads to the same site and presets all the parameters for 10 listings, and sets "Card Number" to "Card#". Thus, you will be able to see which settings to use.

Run the scan and report. Then click the "Build Report" button that has the settings we prefilled just for you, and "Download Report".

Save the download to your desktop and upload to eBay's Seller Hub > Reports > Uploads

Seller Hub - uploader - results fileSeller Hub - uploader - results file

After it uploads, there will be a "results" file that will tell you if there were issues with any of the listings in that upload.

I cannot believe this is still an issue. I "discovered" this problem after getting 218 items listed in a dropdown only to discover the default attribute wasn't acceptable.

Tried the spreadsheet upload and it failed. I then went and did the tedious step-by-step copy/paste of the 218 items into a 2nd attribute. WhenI went to update, the page crashed, reloaded, and all my work was gone.

12 hours.

It's like eBay doesn't want me to sell anything.
