New Listing Tool - Changed Again

The other day when made some new listings see ebay changed the new listing tool (again) - but been busy and didn't have time to come here til now. The new listing tool made it so various things on templates made prior to new tool were making some specifics either being completely ignored or changes to the specific for allowed answers before not being allowed with new tool. So I redid my templates to work with the new listing tool few weeks ago, now  ebay decides to make changes to the tool again (notice now most things are in drop downs on specifics) well once again things that were filled out templates to work with the new tool are again being ignored.

Last week was on another thread were some talked about opting out of the new tool, how many have actually opted out and has that seen issues with your sales/views when did so? The old tool is far better and don't need to fix templates all the time for it. Just curious.

The tool has changed for many people and for some its permanent.   I know they already made a huge change to the item specific section but that is a good thing- the original design was a complete disaster and the most recent update brings it a littler closer to the classic tool that you mentioned and we all prefer!    Hopefully we will continue to see changes to make it "less mobile and "more desktop" so we computer listers can get back to listing!

As they move more of the fields onto the the main listing flow instead of mobile app popups it will get better and better.   There will probably be some growing pains with the compatibility of the templates but hopefully it is "all hands on deck" to get this to a usable desktop tool again soon

Well it's not permanent for me, I can opt out, just didn't and have dealt with it, adjusting. Aside I know that eventually it will be perm for all like you mentioned are for some. Many don't like it cause the time it takes them to list something, that is the key to templates. Takes me no longer to list now as did then, which is like 4-5 min maybe... as long as the templates are working. When they keep changing the new tool seems it effects specifics on the templates, and those specifics shouldn't be changing, they did all this a year ago with specifics. Course don't know if that is same in all categories, likely not, but for what I list in, specifics were changed a year ago, new tool shouldn't be ignoring/changing fields or allowed answers. The other part of the change is the HTML option in description - it's still there but it's weird. Understand they want to make it "universal" for all devices, but if your on PC don't need mobile features vise verse.

I absolutely agree with you and apparently most other sellers too! We want a listing tool that is optimized to be the best on a desktop- we do NOT list on our phones.... and most likely if a person lists on a phone, they only list that way and not on a computer- I think the whole unified listing tool experience had far less to do with user satisfaction and way more to do with simplifying the back end programming.   If we treated our customers like ebay treats its customers (sellers), we would be below standard and out of business lol!

It does seem like they have finally heard us and are starting to redesign the listing tool to give us a better desktop experience but keep sending the feedback after every listing so they dont think its done. we still need far more editable fields on the main page and we need our "enter" key to actually do something instead of these dumb "done" buttons that we have to click on everywhere- that works on MOBILE but is a complete failure on DESKTOP

yeah well here the thing, most companies and their websites have a mobile version, the version you get is determined by what device your using to view the web, if your on PC then your get the full "Desktop" version, if your on your phone, then you get the "Mobile" version - this isn't new, been like this 10-15yrs now. The "change" since then is mobile apps people add to their mobile device, so if one is using their phone they just use the app, but if one is on say Safari it still detect it's a mobile version of Safari or Chrome etc... Except Ebay - no, they can't design a website like everyone else, instead they want it to be "universal" - same site for all devices - and well, lol, that doesn't work, if it did all other sites would be same way, but they aren't. When your on a mobile version of a site there is always a link somewhere on site (usually down the bottom) that says "View Desktop Version" - what you don't see? "View Mobile Version" - it doesn't exist - see above - apps - that's why.

Stated some this in another thread - ebay is PARTIALLY correct - in sense that many people DO use their mobile device (phone usually) to view and BUY from sites these days - 100% true - OK, I understand ebay's thought to make site easier for mobile users - again, we already have option for that, it's called > Ebay App. Course its shyyt and they haven't been able to make it work right since started - no matter what they do - but then no one told them to hire interns to design their sites and app either - so no sympathies here, multi billion dollar company - hire some pros, i know company's that make enormously far less and their websites are perfect! But aside all that - ebay already know what users use what devices, desktop, laptop, mobile device - it's all on your account along with ISP address. SELLERS - yeah OK, some sellers do use mobile app to list and "sell" - but majority of serious sellers, especially long time sellers, those who are actually a Business do not - they use Standard Business Practice = Desktop/Laptop - just like everything else they use for accounting, inventory etc...

NO seller, want to go through hassle of adjusting things they make/use to make their selling easier on ebay every time they go to list something - i.e. Templates - or and I can only image what a pain in the backside it would be - 3rd party listing app (I don't use them, but plenty do) to cover ebay's changes they didn't even ask anyone if they wanted or needed. The result of this since quarterly update is LOSS OF SALES - and yeah, that means ebay also, we sell make money so does ebay - it's a simple arrangement and concept - why they have to complicate it all the time is beyond me.

Again - I agree 100%

It baffles he mind really- Innovation is NOT just doing something different for the sake of it. There are established metrics and ways of doing business for a reason.  Like you said- if it was better to have a universal tool or website that looked the same across devices- everyone else would already be doing it- ebay is usually 2-3 years behind all the innovations.... I think they just "sold it" to the shareholders and again it was a very poor idea. They were like- nobody is doing this- we got to get out in front lol.  Little did they know- nobody is doing it because its a horrible idea!
