I sold my item. Now buyer wants my PayPal information so he can pay for what he bought. However, I only gave ebay my bank account for posting payments.
Am I being too cautious or is this how it's done.

You're not being too cautious. Do NOT give the buyer your PayPal information. The buyer can pay through eBay. If the buyer hasn't paid in 4 days, you can cancel the order on Day 5, citing 'Buyer didn't pay'. Good catch and stay vigilant.

Its a scammer, everything they need to access to pay is right there on eBay already. If you gave them your paypal ID, they would just send you a fake "you have been paid" email. I would suggest not having any contact with them at all, and close the unpaid item after 4 days if it is not set to do it automatically.

Your ‘PayPal information’ is actually, your email address.
Once they have your email address, they have a way to communicate outside the eBay platform. They can send you fake PayPal messages making it look like you have been paid. They can even fake eBay messages.
When transacting through eBay, keep all communication within the eBay messaging system. For the vast majority of transactions, there isn’t any reason to talk/chat/message your trading partner. The listing is over, the winner pays, and the seller ships to the address provided with the payment.
