File Exchange Error

Good Morning.
Yesterday I developed an issue uploading my listings via file exchange. All attempts are now failing, after previous successful attempts. I am now getting this error "Abandoned Job: Bad File for Job: 1042700397 - Could not invoke the HTTP client Socket read from fileex-wiuiq.vip.stratus.lvs.ebay.com failed without retry." Please advise on a solution. Thank you.

Re: File Exchange Error

I am not familiar with the text of your error and you may need the help of the eBay Advanced Apps team to resolve it.

The abandoned job error has been discussed several times in the past, and there are several possible reasons for this error.

Please type 'abandoned job' into the blue search box above this thread, then hit return/enter. You can then look through the previous responses.

In those threads you can also find the ways to enlist the help of eBay's Advanced Apps team.

Re: File Exchange Error

Failed without retry.

An immediate abandonment without a retry means the file has a gross error. The file is not in a format that File Exchange can process.

Most frequently, that would be due to extra lines in the file that don't have an action verb and are not marked off as comments. Examples would be line breaks in the description block or in a header or data cell. A copy/paste from eBay's File Exchange manual can often introduce line breaks in headers or cell data. Occasionally, a seller will simply have extra lines of data at the end of the file that go unnoticed because they are offscreen.

This failure might also be caused by saving the file in UTF-8 format where extra characters (BOM) get prepended to the front of the file so that "Action" is not the first encountered word.

I've not seen reports based on server fileex-wiuiq. Here are some historical reports based on fileex30 and fileex1.

A. This error occurs when the HTML in your Description field is not formatted correctly. When using File Exchange, all HTML must be on a single line. This means all hard returns and line breaks (such as those created by pressing the "Enter" key) must be removed from your HTML.

Q. File Exchange - Abandoned Job: Bad File for Job: 671064977 - Could not invoke the HTTP client Socket read from fileex30phx.vip.ebay.com failed without retry.

A.
1. Format should be FixedPrice, not FixedPriceItem
2. Your StartPrice values have thousands of cents ( ie - 85.077), which the system won't accept. Please use the correct currency value
3. Your File has a lot of unused columns. Please remove any columns that you are not using
4. File Exchange does not support line breaks and carriage returns in this field. If multiple line descriptions are desired, you must paste HTML text into this field. Use the <BR> and <P> HTML tags to separate lines into multiple paragraphs.

A.
1. Your ItemID numbers are not correct because the column was not formatted to remove the scientific notation. To have it display the full item numbers, you will want to right-click on the column letter name twice to bring up a menu. In this menu, click on "Format Cells" and select "Number" from the "Category" box in the panel that pops up. In here, change the "Decimal places" from "2" to "0" and click OK. This will change all of the item numbers in that column from exponential format to show the full item number.
