I was listing some auction items today and noticed this message (see below) when I was setting up the automatic relisting for some of the items. This is the first time I became aware of this. I wondering what the upcoming changes are to the automation rules. I know that it will affect the way I list and sell items; I just need to get a handle on this.
Starting in early 2022, some of the automation rules will no longer work on existing listings and can't be applied to any new listings. |
This change applies to: List according to my schedule, Relist once if an item doesn't sell, and Relist as Fixed Price if an item doesn't sell. |

Hey @red-wood_trader! Unless you use any of those three features, this won't really apply to you. That is just saying that if you used them, they'll no longer work/be a thing in early 2022. If you are currently using one or more of them, then know going forward that those options won't be available any longer. As for a specific timeframe, we don't have one to provide. I hope that helps!

Could you confirm that "list according to my schedule" only applies to how a relist is automatically handled?
Hopefully, it would not affect the scheduled listing option found in the listing creation flow below.

Good question @shipscript! Right now Auto relisted items appear in Scheduled. This is only for newer sellers though. It will put the item in scheduled temporarily, so that it will end at an optimal time for selling. It's my understanding that they're just making it the same for all sellers, so those who were utilizing this 'feature', will no longer experience it in early 2022. I've not heard that we're doing away with scheduled listings all together.

I have been selling and buying on eBay since 2000. I have a store but I am a small seller with a limited inventory. I found that auction listings seem to attract more attention for the items I sell. However, with a limited number of no-fee auction listing available with the store subscription I have to use them wisely. So I frequently use the automation rules to change a listing from auction to fixed price after a set number of times as an auction listing. I signed up for Selling Manager Pro just so I could use the automation rules. This system works well for me and eliminates the headache of remembering to relist items after an auction ends.
From the message I received eBay is eliminating the automation rules in 2022. What I wanted to know is there going be a replacement for the automation rules or are they simply going away.

EBAY, PLEASE DON'T ELIMINATE AUTOMATIONS

As far as i can tell they did. I started to get notification that my items are no longer relisting automatically and i need to do it manually. This is really annoying as i am listing numerous items and this feature made it easy to determine if i need to lower the cost as it did not sell the first time and not take away from my 250 “free” listings a month.

What a nightmare. We rely heavily on these automation rules. More specifically, we list as auction 3 times then have the item listed as fixed. This has all been automated for many years. Perfect right? Now eBay has "simplified" the automation rules to only "relist up to 8 times". No ability to change to fixed price besides manually. Wow, eBay you really hit us hard on this one. No notice either. Only "there will be changes that simplify". We have over a thousand items listed and add about 100 new items per week. Now we have to manually change format for each item or, at best, completely abandon auction style listings by going straight into Fixed price. This is a major step backwards. We wouldn't we automate as much as possible? Then I can spend more time sourcing and listing inventory. Good for everyone right? It makes no sense. What a major disappointment eBay. Bring back the old automation!!

"Relist up to 8 times" option seems to have been removed as well. That was the option I always used for my auctions. I was unable to find anything where it is referenced as changing.

I spoke with an eBay representative who suggested that we write a feedback for eBay by clicking on "comments" at top right of the active listings page. Maybe if enough people complain they will revert back to the old "un simplified" way.

We haven't done away with automated relists entirely @lograves. You can go here for more on when and and how many days these automations can be utilized.

My current/new auction listings do not give the option to relist 8 times. If it is still available, how does it function? My auctions have been ending after 7 days. I have changed most of my listings to "Buy It Now" unfortunately, my sells and new listings have diminished.

Hmmm, would you mind giving me an item number for a current auction @lograves that I can try to take a closer look at?

Thank you @lograves! I didn't see the option in your listing either so I reached out for help and was told the following:
The automatic relist option is only available on listings created by new, occasional, or lapsed sellers. New, occasional, and lapsed sellers are based on a complicated seller segmentation system. The segmentation updates once a week, and the option will disappear when the seller moves to a higher segment.
I know this isn't exactly the response you were hoping for, but I'm glad there is nothing inherently wrong with your listing forms. Congrats on the consistent sales too! If you were bumped up to a higher segment then you're doing a great job and running into less unsold auctions than other sellers are.
