mail forwarders

i have buyer who is international buyer. This is what ebay told me. If buyer tells ebay item not as described,  ebay will issue return label to this buyer and charge me about $200. considering i sold item for $72, buyer expects me to tell her please keep item and here is your $72 back.  It sounds totally crazy, but ebay is not about protecting sellers. It would be logical for buyer to use the same forwarding service to get item back  to DE  and me pay $7 to get it shipped back to me. But this is not what i was told.  i am expected to pay for return of this item from foreign country. Any advice?

Who at eBay told you this?

When an international buyer uses a forwarding service ....

- For an Item Not Received claim, the seller is responsible for proving delivery to the forwarding service / the ship to address provided by the buyer.

- For a Not As Described claim, the seller is responsible for covering the return shipping cost from the forwarding service / ship to address that was provided by the buyer.

An overseas buyer uses a freight forwarder is not covered by the eBay MBG for return shipping for a claim of not as described after the item is reshipped.

But eBay will not accept the freight forwarder address as proof the item was reshipped. Instead, you must always write via eBay Messages to the buyer, asking are you here in e.g. Delaware, or are you having this reshipped?

The honest buyers will answer honestly, but the buyer planning a scam will lie that they work for the freight forwarder (let the buyer know you'll call to verify), etc. eBay needs to see this in writing, to be convinced to void the eBay MBG.

Re: mail forwarders

Sometimes buyers make an item not as described return when they are not sure what option to pick. It happens, all sellers must be prepared for this & expect it.

But I am not sure I understand the problem you are having.

If you are shipping from the USA to a non USA (international) address, seller is still responsible for buying return postage or at least facilitating the return which would be something like offering the buyer a refund of the amount of the return postage before they send it back.

A very helpful eBay representative told me about "packlink.com" where you can buy international labels from outside your country. I recently used it to buy a customer a return label from a country in Europe back to the USA.

If you are shipping from the USA to an address within the USA, but the buyer's address is really a forwarding service, then they need to also return the item from that address. If this is what happened, and the item got forwarded out of the USA, then the buyer needs to get it back in the USA one way or another.

If you are outside of the USA and you are shipping to a USA address, I can not offer any insight as I do not have first hand experience with such a situation.

What I would recommend to you, and what I always do myself when shipping to a known forwarding service address, is simply to require signature for delivery. Yes, it is a few extra dollars, but it's worth it for the peace of mind, and gives you extra protection in case you get an item not received claim.

(I edited this post to fix a grammatical error & add an extra sentence.)

Re: mail forwarders

who told me the above at ebay? obviously not Jamie Iannone.  Some child ebay hired in some thirld world country.   where did you get this from? "For a Not As Described claim, the seller is responsible for covering the return shipping cost from the forwarding service / ship to address that was provided by the buyer"  It means i only responsible from shipping from DE to me.  This cant be right
